So I have a 1987 Country Squire and that 302 is a big old turd. It just has no power at all. I am getting a 351W from a friend that has less miles than my 302. It was originally in a 1988 F150. Anyone ever do a swap like that? My husband is really skilled and said it would be ok, but I still like to get any tips or experience from anyone who has done one. Anything we should watch out for?

There are some things that need to be answered, such as if he plans to keep the EFI (very doable), and what would need to be done. I do know, that the 5.8 truck lower manifold can be adapted to the 5.0's upper plenum (it's something you should google), and that Explorer 5.0L injectors can be used with the stock truck fuel rail. So, other than having the 5.0 engine accessory drive ant timing cover, the only other item you'll need is a 5 quart rear sump oil pan and dipstick tube, for the 5.8, because the truck 6-qt. hangs down too far. Just so happens, I have a usable 5.8 pan with dipstick tube, dipstick, and I think the sump pickup tube itself. If you might be interested, just PM me, I can take pics for you to see them.

The 351W was still available in the wagons in Canada and in the fleet vehicles up to '91. Everything is still in the same general place as the 302 so it should be a pretty straight forward swap. I seem to recall the A/C compressor bracket and/or tensioner bracket on the passenger side are specific to the 351W (most likely due to the taller deck height). Are you planning on going carbureted or fuel injected? The 351W installed in the panther vehicles were all carbureted. Most of the stock multi port 351W intake manifolds are too tall to fit under the stock hood. I heard rumors that the Lightning intake manifold would fit, but I never confirmed that (they are also pretty expensive when you find the upper and lower). You could also go to an aftermarket FI system.

That specific engine should have E7TE heads which aren't great, but aren't the worst head that Ford ever made.

I honestly think it would be easier to work with the 302 you have in there. Upgrade from the lo-po specs to the HO specs and go from there.
