That Caddy is definitely an amazing specimen but I don't think you could pay me to own a car with the HT-4100 motor. The Buick with the 307 is a MUCH better buy.
Yep, I had an '84 Seville with one - 0-60 in 8.9 MINUTES! But the darn thing got about 25 or so mpg, and especially when I needed it most - when I had an 80 mile roundtrip commute for a few months. Interesting outcome - when I went into the USAF, I gave it to my dad as a knockaround car, and he loved it, but about a year or so later he sent something through the block on it. Now, knowing how my dad drove his cars gingerly, I wonder how the heck that happened? Maybe I answered my own question.....
Aluminum block, cast iron parts, etc. all lead to massive corrosion issues and thus water pump failures, head gasket failures, and just a poorly designed oil pump system lead to premature failure. Garbage engines honestly.
Yep, and the cylinder liners were wet, sealed with o-rings as a weight-saving measure. The bean counters and engineers must've thought Caddy buyers were just flush with money, and wouldn't flinch at an engine replacement.
