Rare two-year only Toronado "sport" model. I find this one tempting at the price and the rarity. Thoughts? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1981-Oldsmobile-Toronado-XSC-/152698882420?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
A little rough around the edges, but the price is right, and it looks pretty good overall. You know you want it. Get it and join the Toronado club!
eBay listing ended with no sale. I've emailed seller with some questions. Truthfully, it would be more tempting if it were a 1980 as it would have the gasoline 350.
I've been in communication with seller. Says it all works except AC. No rust except the spot starting on the lower rear quarter, as shown in the photos. I'm mulling it over. I do like it. Especially like how rare this Toronado variant is.
Too bad. Maybe he sold it. Well, as we've seen with the '77 and '78 Toronados on here, they're like city buses. Just wait a bit because there's always another one coming along.
Except he did respond to my email Sunday night after the eBay auction ended. Said he did still have it. But no reply since then.
Well that raises an interesting question. If he ended before responding to you, why did he end it? It couldn't have been because you were going to buy the car because you hadn't committed to buying the car yet, and if I'm the seller, I don't end the auction until the car is actually sold. So he must have had some reason to end it outside of his communication with you. Maybe he had another interested party who showed enough interest that he figured ending the auction would be ok to do as the car was likely to be sold, but he responded to you the way he did (answering questions without letting on the that the car was about to be sold) because the car hadn't been 100% officially sold. I have no idea. I'm just speculating. But it makes sense that he might have had the car almost sold locally, so he ended the auction, but the sale wasn't a done deal at the time you contacted him, so he responded but without mentioning that the car is about to be sold to another party. The thing to do now is watch ebay and see if the car reappears, which would mean that the local sale fell through.
The eBay listing was not an actual auction but a "Buy It Now" for $2500 with a set end date and time. No takers. I e-mailed him Sunday after the eBay listing had automatically ended, and he said he still had it. It is also listed for sale on other sites. 81 Oldsmobile Toronado XSC - smclassiccars.com However, it is always the same photos which are clearly not current (winter outside). I e-mailed him again this morning. I'll let you know if there is any response.
