Never liked this Cougar design, but this is a good example of one, 38 years later. https://eugene.craigslist.org/ctd/d/1980-mercury-cougar-xr-7-rwd/6481922094.html
I never did either. I'm now at the age to where I can drive something like that, without pundits suspecting me of driving my parent's car. Dropping the heavy bumpers, replacing the underpinnings with those from a Mustang and doing something about that engine, it could be a fun sleeper. Whitewalls are a must, though
The seller is a dealer, but I'm not impressed with the photos. Many are repetitive, and none are full-on shots of the front or rear end, photos which I think are pretty much required in any car ad. We want to see the WHOLE car. Here's from the 1980 XR-7 brochure. Not a full-on shot, but we see more of the front end than in any of his photos. Also, it doesn't have the electronic instrument cluster.
After this long the LED bulbs probably burned out... most modern cars have gone digital, with too much info on practically a tablet of a dash... Analog will probably end up quaint but retro cool in another 20 years.
