Not bad. It has the Porno Red interior and the '70s turbine wheels with the T-Bird center caps, which are a plus with me.
That interior is darker in real life. The dash pad is real leather, hand sewn. This was the very top of the line Thunderbird in 79, and very close to the Lincoln Continental in terms of comfort and luxury. The turbine wheels have polished faces with the sides of the spokes painted burgundy enamel to match the car. The last time I saw a Heritage for sale, it was a bit nicer than this, but was priced at $12,000 and SD for abiut $10,000. This could be a very good deal for someone who loves these cars. Wish I had a garage
Looks clean and loaded. I'll take it. Was the carpeted trunk original? Was it an add-on option or standard?
I remember seeing these cars being driven around when I was still in high school and they were still semi-common. Brings back a lot of memories...
Yeah, the Heritage was top of the line Thunderbird for 1979 - it replaced the 1978 Diamond Jubilee model. Almost everything was standard except for maybe the moon roof, including the fancy plush trunk carpeting. The one for sale looks like a nice example with some minor flaws given the bargain basement price.
The grade of carpet in the trunk of these was the same as the passenger compartment carpet in my 89 Grand Marquis LS sedan. The sunroof was an option, as was leather upholstery which this does not have. It does have the extended range tank, power seats, gauge package, and almost every other luxury you can imagine, including illuminated entry.
Just noticed. Somewhere along the line, the rubber bumper strip have been replaced. On a Heritage they should be colour keyed to the paint, so this one would have the Burgundy rubber. I can't tell, but the hood ornament should also have the red Bird in the middle, not an open one.
