Prolly because of the colors. Mine was reversed black on bottom, silver up top, and that popped too. I think colors make these cars(and the Regals & Cut Supremes too)look more fetching with a good color combo like this car. I don't know where you'd get those silver rub strips. Heck they were unobtanium back in 1989.
