Haven't seen a CP from this generation this nice in a while. Only downside I see on this one is the 460 wasn't available anymore - most likely has a 400.

The 1978 Mercury brochure is contradictory on engine options for the Marquis and Colony Park. All the ad copy states that the 351 is standard with only the 400 optional. Yet the very last page shows the 460 optional. Same goes for the 1978 LTD catalog.

I've tried to decode the VIN as to the engine, but the VIN does not appear to be enough digits.

I pm'd the seller. Vin code is "A" (5th digit) 460-4v. In 78 the 460 was not available in California, only 49 states.

Cool. Thanks. This beauty looks to have it all except for cornering lights.

    Lack of bids is surprising.

Wow, this is a beauty and with what seems to be a fair asking price.

I agree with you all, very nice car. But at 18grand I believe its a tough sell. Easy if that's what you are looking for and have the cash.

I know I'm cheap, but I don't see these at that price point yet.

I'll reiterate. 65K miles may be considered quite low mileage for today's cars with computer controlled fuel injection and synthetic oils common for their entire lives, but for a '78 model with a carburetor, primitive emission controls, and a very low probability that synthetic oil was used -- not only had I never heard of synthetic oil in 1978, I didn't even know you were actually supposed to change the oil at regular intervals -- that mileage would be quite significant. With the kind of care that cars generally received back then (very poor), life expectancy for engines was 100 - 150K miles (mine were always on the lower end of that range). The point is that the mileage is not a justification for the asking price.

The car is very attractive, but note no pictures of the underneath.

Are those dents or reflections in the trim surrounding the woodgrain?

Unless Mercurys have shot way up in price since the marque was discontinued (and I haven't noticed it), and assuming the condition of the underneath of the car is comparable to the rest of it, I think I'd top this out at around $8K.

I saw that. Yes, clearly the reason it has not sold in nearly a year is because it has been priced too low.
