This looks shockingly original. Wonder how it has survived all these years? These original Buick turbo cars were not known for reliability or longevity. 1978 buick spot coupe - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle... (craigslist.org)
What I can't figure out is why a lot of these have never been given a transplant of the turbo EFI 3.8L? It'd be a nice sleeper in that vein.
Hard to believe this would turn into the Grand National a few years later. (But this owner did not buy the factory clock.)
Carb'd Turbo Buicks send shivers down my spine! And not in a good way! I had forgot about the Turbo power gauge? Indicator? My 78 was Tan/Tan/Tan. And was in great condition because it would never run well for more than a couple of days at a time. I bought it in 1980 or 81. Sold it a couple years later after finally figuring out it had a porus intake manifold but only on the bottom side so it really only effected it running under boost. If I drove it like my grandfather it run well until it fouled the spark plugs in a few days of driving. If I drove it like the teenager I was it would blow oil out of all the seals in the engine when the boost came up! A new intake, and all new gaskets cured most of the problems, then it just ran like a normal turbo Buick of the era. (not well but at least it ran!) What a difference EFI made a few years later! This car looks very original, Very nice condition (see prevous comments) But I don't care for the colors or options, and I will never own another non EFI Turbo Buick as long as I live! Thanks for the bad memories elB!
