It is a nice-looking car and very fairly priced. Looks like it's missing the luggage rack. I wonder why. His ad doesn't mention it.

I was wondering what happened to it myself.

Luggage rack not optioned as new? That's always possible from the weird factory option choices in the 1970.

If you look closer you can see there was one there, why it's not anymore is the question not weather it was a option.:yup:

    Don't think that's a 1977 steering wheel.

The brochure shows a different one, but there may have been others available. This is the same one I have in my '81...

This car is very close to where I live, if I wasn't 300 miles away for work I would have to check it out. (even though I do not car for external fake wood on my wagons) I agree that it did originally have a roof rack, besides the roof stripes you can clearly see the attachment points for the rack itself.
I also agree that the steering wheel is the later 81-86 Custom comfort wheel. So some work has been done on the car. Those steering wheels from the 70's seem to ooze a black sticky oil residue over time, and if the car is not driven regularly to wear if off it builds up and almost becomes impossible to remove.

Not to mention if someone removes the roof rack, did they seal up the holes in the roof? If not, you'll have a leaker and a leaking roof will kill a car in no time.

Simple Green to remove the black gunk and dirt, then wipe the wheel down with acetone (nail polish remover) on a rag to get rid of the gooey residue. Works great on all the steering wheels I've done! Might have to use acetone a few days to weeks later to get rid of the goo if it comes back (which is oils from the skin and plastics being released as it breaks down due to UV and age).

:slap: You're right.I have no idea why I hit the Buick link on the website instead of Pontiac. I have both those manuals in print, but I was too lazy to dig them out.

I kind of like this steering wheel better than the ones in the '77 Poncho brochure on the websites, though. The sportier/muscle car type steering wheels look great on the Firebirds and the CanAms, but are just a little out of place on a Grand Safari.
