Original owner. Looks like new. https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/cto/d/west-covina-1977-pontiac-firebird/6992122131.html
That is one clean car, I wonder what V8 it has in it? Original California car, could be a Chevy 350, but could also be an Olds 350, 403, or a Pontiac 350 or 400. I suspect it is a Chevy 350. It will probably sell for close the the almost $20,000 asking price.
Actually, the answer is apparently none of the above, and, to top it off, the craigslist ad is apparently in error as the car doesn't even have a V-8. He shows several photos of documentation, and one of them actually has the car's VIN on it. Note the VIN right at the top. 2S87C7N135841 This VIN decodes as follows: 2 = Pontiac division S = Firebird (T would indicate Firebird Esprit, U would indicate Firebird Formula, and W would indicate Firebird Trans Am, so this car is the base Firebird for 1977) 87 = 2-door hardtop C = engine = 231 cubic inch V-6 7 = last digit of model year N = assembly plant (Norwood, Ohio) 135841 = production sequence number So, yes, this car has a V-6. He may have checked "V-8" on the craigslist ad creation form, but that's apparently an error. It's too bad he doesn't show any photos of the engine. This is from the '77 Pontiac brochure. Note the copy at the top. The base engine was the 3.8 litre (231 CID) V-6.
"Every turn of the key signals another spirited performance." I think the writer of this brochure was 'spirited' when he wrote that.
That's rather disappointing, I actually owned a 74 plain Firebird with a 250 I6 and a 3-speed manual on the floor. It actually was almost fun to drive from a standing start to around 60mph, above 4000 rpm that straight 6 got very "thrashy" and load. I have driven a stock 2bbl V6 automatic Sunbird wagon, in thant 2800lb car the 110 hp V-6 was slow, I can't imagine what it would be like with anouther 800-1000 lbs to haul around.
