have been oogleing this one for the past 3 weeks;just love it and have actually bought 2 cars from this dealer over the past 5 years. If I had space I'd be all over this one!
I'm just kind of curious as to why it needed a frame-off restoration. My guess is that the frame was seriously compromised (rust).
For a car that has had a 'meticulous' off frame restoration, there are some details that are just not that great. The stripe on the driver's front fender is not smoothly applied, and any good installer knows how to get that line in a nice even curve. The side molding on the passenger side front fender does not line up quite right with the front door, and the passenger fender skirt is not sitting just right. Small details, maybe, but are they indicative of other things not done just right? There is something about the stance of this one that just does not seem quite right, too. I am wondering if there was a reasonably serious front end crash somewhere in the history of this car.
It is a nice looker I'll admit, but I wonder why of all the cars out there a person would spend all that $ on a frame off resto on one of these to begin with when you won't stand a chance in hell on even regaining 1/2 the cost:confused:
I took my Driver's Ed course in an identical '76 LTD - colors, skirts and all! One of our requirements was a 75-mile (one-way) trip on US 50. The speed limit varies anywhere from 20 on a few of the really tight mountain curves, to 55 on the straights (this was 1976, after all!). I had that big LTD at nearly 90 mph, since my teacher (also the football coach - 6'2 260#) was asleep with his 15-minute nap! He was not real happy that I was doing 90, of course!
They probably had one new back then and the car means a lot to them, or they restored this one because they bought it new. Restoration of a four-door nearly always means you are doing it because you like that car, not an expectation of a huge payday! C'mon, you like wagons, you should be able to figure out the reasons why by now!
Ive always liked the the 76-77 LTD's......I have a 2dr Landau....right under the tree ..... :banghead3:
