I couldn't afford it. HOWEVER, I don't think you could restore one to this level for that kind of money. You would be hard-pressed to find another Chrysler wagon like this one.

"The engine is a 440 CID V8 with 4bbl carburetor. Cruising at 60MPH (100KPH) gets you an average 20-25 MPG."

    No way.

I get 21 highway all day long with my 440 4-barrel 1978 New Yorker Brougham Salon 4-door hardtop. The 25 mpg claim is stretching things a bit, but some people insist these are single-digit gas hogs - far from it!

I drove my '78 to Tulsa and back last weekend. Filled up at the start, then filled up when I got home, which was 201 miles @ 9.3 gallons = 21.61 mpg. That's the same mileage my wife's '06 PT Cruiser ragtop gets on the highway!

Have no idea if the seller will get his price for it, but he's not unreasonable in asking it IMHO. This wagon has it all - appears to have all options, is very low mileage, and shows no wear. We know that green '73 T & C priced at $12k recently sold to a forum member, and it was not as fully optioned as this beauty.

    Seller says:

You may never find a better one.

    I imagine he's right. :yup:

@Tedy - Well, believe it or not, that's what my odometer and my fuel receipt come to. Maybe when YOU guys drive these big late '70s cars, you get 12 mpg, but I don't.

This car brings up a question that I have always been curious about. What is involved in bringing a car from Canada to the U.S.? Does anyone have any experience with this? What fees/taxes etc. are involved?

Yes, there is a process. MikeT1961 knows about it. He informed me last year when I was looking at a Caprice Estate in his area. Cars going from Canada to the U.S. have to go through customs. As I recall, I don't think the fees were all that onerous, but the process sounded like kind of a pain. I ended up skipping the Caprice not over that but due to possible rust issues.

I went back to the PMs with Michael from last December:

There is no duty to be paid, I think, but it still has to go through Customs, and that means a bonded courier, which is not the cheapest thing in the world. That border is a pain in the neck!

Patrick: Remember, too, when you quote gas mileage, you are using the smaller American gallon. Figure that the person in Alberta is using the larger Imperial gallon, and 25 mpg is completely understandable.

Tedy: The biggest things are the dual exhaust, which can contribute 5 mpg to the equation, and how the carb and timing are set up. Get both right, and these cars really do very well indeed on gas.

He probably IS quoting mileage for an Imperial gallon. But, I'm quoting 21 for my Chrysler with a US gallon. Both are pretty damn good.

Far as getting a car into the US, IF the US buyer goes to Canada and takes possession there, there are only two forms to fill out, plus letting Customs have a 24-hour notice when you are coming across the border. BUT, it you are having a hauler bring it across, or if the Canadian seller is bringing it across, there are several additional requirements and forms, but no duty, in any case.
