Seems ambitious, but he might find a diehard AMC guys that’s gotta have one of those. I’d buy the ‘76 LTD Brougham for half that.

Seems kind of silly to have a starting bid of $9500 and then a BIN price that's only $1000 more. The way to list this car is with a BIN price of whatever he wants, say $10,500 like he has now, and then put up a "Make Offer" button. He can test the market that way. If he gets 10 offers, and they're all for $5,000, he'll learn something. The way it is now, all he's likely to find out, when the auction ends with no bids, is that no one wants it at a $9500 price.

Yeah I don’t understand some of this strategy, cause ya know the first bid is gonna buy it, if he’s the only one. I think some of these folks navel gaze and try to out smart the system. At the end of the day like you said do a buy it now or “make offer”, and he’ll see what the market bears.

I would. I'm sure there are quite a few people tired of looking at '65 Mustangs and '69 Camaros at car shows.

Maybe not with that wonky price.

Our neighbor, who was a zone manager at AMC’s wife had that exact car. I liked it until he bought her a ‘77 two tone bronze and tan Oleg Casini coupe with the spermatozoa interior pattern. Now that was a Matador!

Merc, there was one of these in our local u-pull about 6 mos. ago - same year and colors. Local car - it even had the old "Dick Poe El Paso" emblem on the trunk still....(Still in business, but I don't know if Dick is formerly from Baltimore and related to Edgar Allen though)

We had one of these in our neighborhood too, but it was the "X" model with the slotted mags.

He usually drove an Ambassador 4dr or/SST wagon, but for a short while he had the matching car/color combo with the “Barcelona” package. One of my fondest memories is their only daughter used to baby sit for me. Every time she came over she had a 1/25 scale AMC something. I got a red and black Marlin, a turquoise/ green one and a really cool eggplant colored Ambassador with a white top. There were a few wagons as well, but AMC had the absolute best promo’s usually two toned.

I'd kill for a couple of those promo cars. Do you still have any of them?

I do... the wagons were really nicely done with a two tone roof, then there was a poo brown 4 door. I think I must have worn out the Marlins. Those were my two favorites. That was 1965-‘66 for God’s sake. Lol. The only other one I know got kinda messed up was a yellow ‘71 Javlin. I played with that thing relentlessly. BTW, I want to live a bit longer, so I’m not giving you my address. Lol

I couldn't take 'em if I wanted to, but I am the Last Boy Scout, so you don't need to worry.

I didn’t think this site harbored serial killers. I’m kinda scoutly too. It seems every old car person I know is also into the diecast and promo’s. I guess when you have the fever growing up only the price and size of the toys changes. I’m sure I lead the Wolworth’s guy to an early grave with my incessant bothering on which Matchbox cars he had in the display turn style, and which ones were selling the most, and did he see any new ones, and can I look at #55 again? ..... At least I was out of my moms hair.

Ha! Someone else remembers the Matchbox display turnstiles! We had them in our local JJ Newberrys. IIRC, they had a big knob on top that turned the display with the "demonstrators". If you wanted a test drive like me, you had to have a mom with connections in the toy dept. who would go to the cabinet where the boxed up Matchboxes were and take them out for you. I was lucky.

They used to have all kinds of cars out, in all scales and in metal and plastic. I remember having orange and blue Mavericks in plastic that I drove the wheels off them. And then there's the metal Hubley Ford trucks and the Tootsietoy stuff. Oh boy, they were neat.

I had a few Hubley promo cars. I had a ‘60 Blue Country Sedan, and a tan ‘62 Country Sedan. Even still on the ‘62 it was a bit warpy. By ‘61 the Johann, and AMT’s were using new plastics that didn’t warp. Yeah the Woolworth’s guy just lifted the side panel to take out the display Matchbox. I was always jealous the all those cars were there. My favorites were the white ‘66 Mustang fastback, the Green Mercury Wagon and the red Ford stepside truck.

I have that same green Merc Commuter - just like my avatar. Interestingly enough, I also have the same car in red, which I've never seen another one. I think I even have an ambulance and a Park Lane fire chiefs sedan. I believe they're all '68s.
