"Everything worked when I pulled the motor and I'm sure once you rebuild it and put it back together it'll be a he'll of a car again"

So the motor is not currently in the car? He's nuts if he thinks he'll get $3200 for a car that needs to have its motor put back in.

    And what is this nonsense:

"the #''s matching 455 rocket needs to be rebuilt, like most big blocks of that era it starved of oil"

"Most" big blocks of that era were starved oil? Says who? Maybe THIS car's motor was starved of oil at one point, and he's trying to spread the blame. I've owned several big block Oldsmobiles over the years, including one right now, and I've never experienced any "starved of oil" symptoms. The thing is called a "dipstick," dipstick.

    This is also nonsense:

    "I have a spare 455 and 400 out of a 73 442."

Oldsmobile offered a 400 in the 442 only in 1968 and 1969. Yes, you could have gotten a 455 in any '73 Cutlass, 442 or not, but it was a smog motor by then and nothing like the earlier 455's in terms of performance. Of course, if his spare 455 is also out of a '73 Oldsmobile, it's no worse than the engine that the Custom Cruiser came with originally.

    And yet more nonsense:

"There were less than 5,000 Custom Cruiser wagons made in 73 with this paint and interior."

Oldsmobile kept no records of how many of each model were made in a particular color or color scheme of any model until 1977. All Oldsmobile can give you about production for 1973 is the number of 2- and 3-seat wagons produced. This particular car is a two-seater, and Olds made 12,417 of that style. Production of the 3-seater was more than twice this at 26,504.

I'd probably give him $1000 for it without the motor!

With the amount of dust on that car it's probably been sitting awhile.
I think the 400 he's referring to is a Turbo 400. Would look a lot better
    with some original hubcaps.

Whatever. It's not out of a '73 Oldsmobile.

Turbo 400 is the automatic transmission that came on the back of all 455's, Buick/Olds/Pontiac
    or whatever!

My bad. I completely mis-interpreted what he said. When he says "400", I assumed he meant a 400 cubic-inch engine, not a Turbo-Hydramatic transmission. I thought his wording was a bit confusing. This clears it up. Thank you.

I'm sure once you rebuild it and put it back together it'll be a hell of a car again.:rofl2:Since I know nothing about these engines I could screw it up.:banghead3:

Can't tell much from the mostly old photos. I agree it's been sitting awhile. Might not be a bad deal for less.

No sweat. I agree though the seller is still clueless about the car and engine(s) etc.

One other thing you'll have to consider on this one is transportation. That's a pretty heavy brick to be hauling back home with no way to move it on its own.

The guy would be money ahead to just put the spare engine in the car and get it hooked up and driving. These cars when not mobile are not easy to transport.
