Ugh, another Chevelle wagon dressed up like an SS. Does anyone have any originality anymore? It was cool the first 100 times! Now not so much. I guess we should be glad they didn't make Camaro wagons, 'cause every one would be a Z/28.

It makes you think Chevy really muffed it in ‘70-‘72. If they would have offered a SS package from the factory they would have sold 10 million of em.

Well, I'm not so sure. When they offered an 'SS Package' on the redesigned 1973 Chevelle Malibu, I don't think they sold all that many.......

The option package was discontinued for the '74 model year.

This is true, nobody really wanted a sport wagon. Wagons and sedans back then were known as utilitarian vehicles and wound up in the junkyard the minute their useful lives were over. People really were only interested in two-door coupe‘s as far as collectibility or saving a car or what an enthusiast would drive. Although I’ve always loved wagons and I know a lot of you guys always have too, the general public really did not. They were a necessary uncool burden. Probably why the SS package failed. But boy would I love to have one of those one year only 1973 SS wagons. Especially the one with swivel bucket seats. Very rare!

Yeah sadly by ‘73 pretty much anything performance was a husk of its former self. I agree even though I like the ‘70-‘72 Body style, functional tailgate and all it would be cool to have an SS. Talk about late to the party. Lol

So true. Also, at that time there was a strong culture centered around vans. Wife and I always had a wagon starting with her 72 Datsun 510. But to be honest, we treated all of them like more like the lawnmower ( maintained but not babied) while a good friend doted over his Ford van as if it were a 70 Chevelle SS.
