Does anyone on here know the towing capacity of a '69 Kingswood with a 327? I'm curious how well it would tow a 3500lbs camper.

It'll do it easily. IIRC, the full-size Big 4 wagons had a 6000-pound tow capacity; they just have to have a three-core rad, an auxiliary trans cooler for automatics, and helper springs or airbags on the rear axle. You have a set of fender-mounted tow mirrors yet?

With a google search for "1969 Chevrolet passenger car trailer towing brochure", I found this. [IMG]

Wow, they really wanted to make you check off boxes for that 6000 pounds capacity!

But that was very informative, and the RPO codes make it easy to see what all you have, as long as your RPO list in the car is intact.

According to the brochure, my camper would be too heavy for the 327. Hmmm......

They hedge their bets. But it does depend what terrain you intend on pulling the trailer. You don't have OD, so I'm willing to bet, with the right cooler, cooling fan and making sure your brakes are correctly adjusted, you could tow it on flat-ish interstates and U.S. highways.

Sorry to have been the bearer of bad news. On a lighter note, here's a 1969 Airstream promotional film. Towards the end of the film, there's a (probably big block equipped) 1969 Impala coupe towing a full size Airstream on the test track and off road. I know I wouldn't try to drive like that while towing.

A dream I have, but sadly, unless a weathershed change in my life circumstances happens, it'll never come true.

Not at all. I appreciate it. Better to know now than later. Thanks
