400 V8. Does anyone know if the hidden headlight front end is factory accurate for the '68 Bonneville? I thought it was only for the Grand Prix. Regardless, this is one heavily optioned Pontiac! :2_thumbs_up_-_anima http://www.ebay.com/itm/extremely-Loaded-brougham-/191348242196?_trksid=p2054897.l4275
I love those door panels - simple - plain - solid looking! Unlike the cheapo panels on most cars today
In the US, the hidden headlight grille shown on this Bonneville, was only used on the Grand Prix. In Canada, the hidden headlight grille was used on a model line comparable to the Bonneville, but I don't know if it was actually called a Bonneville. Maybe our Canadian Pontiac members know. Fannie???
I will disagree with you on this point, the Hideaway head lights were a very seldom bought option on 1968 Bonneville Models. It was the only year it was offered. There has been a lot of discussion on it being a partial year option only. But no information as to it being an Early or Late year addition/Subtraction. A friend of mine (now passed) had a very nice 69 2 door HT with this option, and he had the Pontiac Historical Documents to prove it was stock. His car actually caused a lot of Debate at the Big Pontiac Oakland Club Show he 1st took it to.
Well, since the owner of THIS '68 Bonneville included a pic of the actual build sheet on the car, I think we can assume that the hidden headlights were available at one time, even though the Grand Prix featured them. One thing should be mentioned here - the '68 Grand Prix was still a 'big Pontiac' - built on the same assembly line as the Catalina and Bonneville. This was the last year for that, however, as the '69 Grand Prix would be all-new and based on the intermediate GM platform (but with an extended wheelbase). I'm not sure about how this would affect the claim of there being a '69 Bonneville out there with the hidden headlight option, as there was no comparable 'big' '69 Grand Prix. As to Jim's question about what the 'Canadian Bonneville' was called....... 'Parisienne' Built on a Chevy frame, and with a Chevy engine, though. (no 'Wide Track')
Krash, there was one model UP from the Parisienne, and that was the Grande Parisienne, which for 67 and 68 at least, used the Grand Prix front and back treatments, but was available in both hardtop body styles, plus the wagon (Safari) and convertible. I have to say, a 'Grand Prix' sedan, right down to the brake lights, is an interesting sight! In the 70s, the top model of Pontiac became the Grandville, and it was very much like the top line Bonneville, longer wheel base and all. Seldom seen, they are really quite something to behold.
Here's another '68 Bonneville Brougham with hidden headlights, so I guess that really was a factory option for the Bonneville that year. This one also appears to have the very rare factory headrests option. https://charlotte.craigslist.org/cto/4753618845.html
