    This is a very clean wagon. Appears ready to drive and enjoy. Even has a shiny 390.

    Looks like it may be a six passenger. I didn't notice the rear bumper pads. This was the last year of the rear facing 3rd row seat. Wasn't this wagon discussed on the board a while back. It sure looks familiar. Wayne

    Sure looks nice especially with that red interior. I will be the nay sayer however and mention that the one up-close pic of the front-end medallion shows what looks like a pretty budget paint job.

    Beautiful wagon, I'd still love it. But you made a good point and before I even read your reply you can see many "iffy" spots on the paint in the pics provided. I also believe we have seen this exact wagon before and paint comments were made.


    I'll still drive it though(y)

    Nice CAR.
    I just always wondered why the 68 Squire had the Awesome Hide-away
    head-lights. And the Higher-end 68 Mercury product from Ford had the
    rather Blah front-end.. Just Sayin'..............:confused:

    Unlike the Fords, the big Mercs had the choice of DFRS or a rear-facing third seat for the first few years after they introduced the DFRS.

    1968 Ford Country Squire/ LTD's are nice cars. Ford did outdo Mercury in the styling department by making their vehicles more fresh looking. The lights on a '68 Squire do look great when they are closed. When stuck open, they don't look so hot. I would say that the '68 full size Merc had probably one of the best front ends Mercury would make for a full sizer. 1965, IMO, was pretty dissapointing when compared to the prior year. As a '68 CP owner who has to get most systems back to functioning status, not having to diagnose and refurbish 46 year old vacuum headlight doors is a plus. Wayne

    P.S... 1968 was the last year of rear facing third rows in full size Mercury wagons. I guess I should have been more specific. I'm not sure if Ranch Wagons had rear facing rows in '68.

    I have a '67 Commuter and have always been a little jealous of the Ford headlight scheme, especially with the hide-away headlights. I also have a '68 Cougar, and that was one of the things I thought helped make it look tough.

    But, even though the rest of the sheet metal is similar, I personally prefer the Mercury. I also think I would give a distinct edge to Mercury for their interiors, especially the dash.

    That being said, I would be happy to own Ford, too!

    As for the third row seats in '68, I have a set of the opposing seats in my Merc that came from a '68 Ranch Wagon. Not sure if that was true of all of them, though.
