I recently stumbled on a long sought after 68' Ford station wagon like I grew up riding around in. (I am 54yo) It was headed to the crusher and given to me, I just had to have a rollback pick it up and bring to my home. About a month later some dope heads tried to steal it from my driveway for a quick scrapyard buck. Front bumper bent out and probably ruined by them.. The wagon is rough but savable, after sitting in a farm field for years, the 4bl 390 is locked up, and the gas tank needs replacing. Wood grain looks bad, as does fiberglass trim. I hope to find a gas tank, maybe convert to disc brakes etc.. I cant find info on what type of axle though, measurements on it don't match 9" Ford specs found online. All help appreciated!
Welcome to the herd! Would like to some some pictures of that fine automobile. It warms my heart to know you saved it from the crusher. Some where an old junkyard dog is getting his wings. sorry to hear about the attempted theft, hope they got what they deserved...there are some resourceful folks on here and I'm sure you'll find what ya need.
Ditto x4. There are some clever Ford folks around here. They don't always stop by the Welcome Wagon. You may have better answers to your questions if you start a thread in the Station Wagon Discussions forum. Glad you saved it. Glad it wasn't stolen. Glad you found us. Looking forward to the pics. We all like the unpretty pictures.
Welcome aboard. Sounds like a great car and a good start to a project. Be sure to start a build thread once you start rolling on this one.
Elwwood1962 , Sounds like you were Johnny on spot and now you have a 68 Longroof . as 66 said we would Love some pics from Downunder
I saved a 68 ranch wagon from becoming a demo derby car this past summer. It was pretty rough but overall a solid car. Mine came with a 302 and the rear axle is a ford integrated rear end. If you have a 390 it should be a 9". It looks like a dana 44 and is pretty similar but nothing interchanges. The brake drums aren't available in canada and shipping one from the states was more than the cost of the drum.
Welcome to the forum, Elwood! Sounds like a neat project. I've got no qualms about suggesting another forum to get some details on what rear end with disc brakes might fit.... http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php http://www.pantherbb.com/ http://www.grandmarq.net/vb/forum.php Marshall
