Over on the classicolds forum. He wants $3000 for it. It's rough. I wonder how the front end gets to looking like that. https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/cars-sale-10/1967-vista-cruiser-150227/
Parked too close to something that was on fire. If that was the case, I wonder if the metal is flimsy now. I had a friend that had a fire and his Mercury was parked too close and got a little crispy on the front end and looked just like this (his grille melted too - a tad bit)
Maybe the red one could be bought for the hood and be front end. It is a shame to let that one slip by.
I think you'd be hard pressed to find a more complete and better starting point project than that car at that price. Yeah, it's got some rust issues but it's not to the point of gaping holes in the sheet metal. If you had a good engine\trans in the garage it likely wouldn't take too much to get it mobile and then you could work on it as it's mobile. Keep it in a garage\carport and it won't get too much worse. This is presuming the floor rust seen is the worst of it and we're not dealing with a Fred Flintstone mobile in the back seat\tailgate area.
I agree that it probably got to close to some sort of heat source but if you look at the head light assembly closely you can see that the "melting" goes towards the direction of the hood. It also has a considerable sized gouge in the bumper just below it.....Longroofs Rule
