This ad was posted on 1/16/2014, so I don't know how much longer it will be running. The car looks decent in the photos. No A/C, though. Pet peeve: Why do some owners photograph their car for sale with the air cleaner (or other engine parts) sitting on the upholstery?

Almost forgot to add the link to the ad: http://frederick.craigslist.org/cto/4290407235.html

1966 Mercury Colony Park Station Wagon For Sale - $8000 (Mount Airy)

This is a station wagon I purchased personally from the original owner, approximately 20 years ago. It has been stored in my building inside since that time. It has had a recent paint job with the original color, the chrome is original and in excellent condition along with the stainless steel trim. The body is for the most part rust free, the interior and headliner are all original and in excellent condition for their age. I have all new brake components that still need to be installed. It has power brakes and power steering, electric rear window, has a tailgate that drops down or opens sideways like a door. It has wood grain siding and its oak surrounded. It does drive and run good. It does need an intake manifold which I also have. Its an amazing station wagon in good condition which is really rare

Cool wagon, and I'll be driving right past Mt Airy, Maryland this weekend ( on my way to a model train show in Timonium, Maryland), but I can't buy any more cars till I get the ones I have done. I like the silver with red interior color combination with the wood like trim, but I would rather have a 66 Country Squire or 66 Monaco wagon myself. As far as Colony Park wagons go, I prefer the 63 above all the rest. Still, this 66 would be tempting if I didn't have other cars on my wish list.
The slotted mags would have to go.

That vintage is absolutely beautiful. Those wheels look very nice on it. Could make a really hairy chested Merc.

Clearly a few flaws, but I'd love that "brick style" Merc in my driveway.

I don't get tossing the air breather on the back seat also, I'd never do that.

And it's a 410... Fords "witch way do I go?", 390 or 428:biglaugh:. Not very common today. Don't know a thing about the 410, but never heard anything bad...so?
Just real facts please, no peanut gallery responses please:D

I once owned a '62 Mercury Monterrey convertible. Someone had swapped out the 352 and cruise-o-matic with a 410 and a 2 speed powerglide. Very powerful and would smoke a lot of other cars.

Love this generation, but do prefer the 65. Still, were I looking for a 60 wagon, this would be on the list for sure.

I'm with you on the '65. I don't know where the mid-60s Merc wagon are price-wise; I have no clue if $8K is reasonable for this model in this condition or not. I do know its academic as I don't have this kind of money to spend.

I don't think the 410 was ever very common; it was only made 2 years. It's a toss-up whether you want to consider it a 390 with a longer stroke or a 428 with a smaller bore. Ford almost never increased both the bore and stroke of a motor without releasing the intermediate version as well, often in the Mercury.

Witness: the 1955 272 had both a bigger bore and bigger stroke (3.62 X 3.30) than the '54 239 Y-block (3.50 X 3.10). The intermediate version, with only the bore increased relative to the 239 measured 256 cid and was used in the '54 Merc.

The 390 has a reputation of being a near bulletproof workhorse motor, and the 428 is a highly regarded performance motor, so I couldn't imagine the 410 being anything but a tough, reliable, FE torque monster. Although I haven't run into enough of them to get owner testimonials, I've never heard of FE reliability problems -- just some (e.g., 352s and 360s) that didn't meet the owners' expectations for power. I suspect there other factors in play in those cases.

8K sounds very high to me on an unrestored car. Restored to anything short of a trailer queen, I would be surprised to see this go higher than maybe mid-teens.

I have a '67 Commuter I'm doing, and I even with my bias, I think this is just priced too high.

Just the same, it is a nice car, and the 410 is a nice bonus.
