Um, 10 GRAND for a few dings and scratches on a gussied up, re-bodied BUG? Sounds a wee bit high to me! These may be tough little cars, but still, that is a bit much, in my opinion.

Yeah, it does look quite rough for that price. For 10 grand, one should be able to get a later model with fuel injection, documented service history and the few the better previous owners who babied the thing. I'm sure, you could get a better deal, when shopping in a western state

I remember the 1966 VW Fastback I bought in 1990 for $750. The guy I bought it from had bought it in Kansas as a barn find, who knows what he paid for it. It had under 40,000 miles on it and looked virtually brand new. Being young and foolish I sold it a year later, although I did have a son on the way. It's sad now to see what even a rusting hulk in a field goes for.

I had a one year old VW square back with very few miles on it. Perhaps that same year. Most things I remember. That car I try to block from my memory. Did I mention mine was deep blue but every bit as much a lemon as the color of this one!:rofl2:

I used to work at a salvage yard in Clawson, Michigan which had a repair shop in affluent Birmingham. We would break down all VW products, including Audis and deliver the used parts to our Birmingham outlet. Once in a while, we would get squarebacks and 411s of which the latter shared their engines with VW buses. I remember the Squares and 411s as robust vehicles which were well put together

I love the square backs and old dubs are getting expensive but 10K seems a little bit high even if he undid the lowering.
