I am a wagon guy and I am definitely a Mustang guy. I have never understood why anyone would go through all of the work to build one of these. In my opinion they always end up looking odd. I've never once seen one that made me think "Man, that is freaking bad to the bone! I gotta have one!"

Somebody has to :D Why not, as long as it's not done often enough to deplete Mustang stocks.
It looks like he knew what he was doing with the bodywork. However, if he expects to get back what he invested in the rest of the mod, including making a profit even, he'd need to find a buyer who shares a likewise questionable taste. Nobody in their right mind would drop big money on this as an investment, unless it was kept original to the point of simulating a genuine prototype, before hacking on the interior and upgrading the front suspension to what it originally should have been in the first place.
The abstract-looking guaging in a halfway-done console, digital instrument panel and stock asthmatic exhaust manifolds kept, despite the correct suspension having made room for at least a decent set of headers, it'll be interesting to see where it ends up at and if and how much money changed hands

I can say I am both as well, and I totally agree with you. This gen Mustangs just don't "look right" as a wagon; haven't though about other gens at this point. :)

Also, I think a wagon should have a tailgate or a full liftgate providing complete access to teh cargo area with no obstruction. To me this qualifies more as a hatchback.

I don't hate it, but I don't see it as much more functional than the fastback version. Most of the work looks decent, although I just scanned through the pictures. I'm not sure I understand the instrument cluster thing. Seems like doing something for the sake of doing something. I think if it had side windows instead of the panel wagon sides it would look better.

Looking at custom wagons. Had you all seen this.
1959 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham Custom Station Wagon For Sale At Auction - Mecum Auctions
$2.3 million on build, sold for $429,000. A good example. if you can find something at an auctions that suits your taste, you can get a good deal (sometimes) . I think i saw this in a magazine maybe.
    • Meticulous $2.3 million 15-year custom build
    • Known as CadMad, a 1959 Cadillac and a 1956 Chevrolet Nomad merged through a 4,000 hour build

It looks like he was trying to make it more a "Shooting Brake" than a traditional wagon as we know. Shooting Brakes use more for packing skis than for hauling lumber.
As far as fastbacking goes, the following likes to graft Mustang backs onto Cougars, when he's not otherwise busy ironing out initially poor Mustang build quality:

Reserve not met on 1/30/26 at USD $24,000
A good example of if you are going to spend a butt load of money on a build, make sure you are doing it for your enjoyment and not making your money back.
