Growing up we had a ‘63 Sport Sedan the same color. I remember the right rear fender antenna on almost all of those cars. I’ve seen wagons with the antenna on the left and right front fenders. Wonder which was was standard, or if it was an option to chose the placement. Never thought of that till now. Inquiring minds want to know.

These were the days before car stereos became popular in most every vehicle, so a lot of new cars were shipped without radios. It was left for the dealer to install them, and I suppose it was up to the technician which side to drill the hole for the antenna.

I agree. If you look back on old window stickers you will see that besides factory air conditioning, radios were pretty much the most expensive option on the list. This is why so many dealers as well as independent companies did aftermarket upgrades because many times you could save money putting these things in afterwards. Back in the 80’s there was a company not far from me that all he did was upgrade new cars with various options. Dealers from all around would send him cars. Most popular were air conditioning (of course) but he did a lot of power windows and locks upgrades along with the radios. He would do it for customers off the street as well as dealers. I used him to add air conditioning to an 85 Chevy van I had and also to my 97 Chevy 1500 WT (that I still have and drive). He did the 97 for me in 2002 and I remember at that time he was winding down the aftermarket business…his son still operates the business but they are just a standard repair shop now.

This seems to make sense. It’s interesting that at that time you could even option up for dual antennas and have one be a dummy. So many more choices back then. To your point about a contractor doing factory work I remember on an early ‘80’s Grand Marquis that I bought there was a guy in St. Louis authorized to install “factory type” moon roofs in Crown Vic’s and Grand Marquis. Even though the Crown Vic’s weren’t built in St. Louis. This guy did a fabulous job, and it looked exactly like a Lincoln moonroof inside handles and all for about $400 less than what one would have stickered for. I bought an ‘87 Grand Marquis and ordered a moonroof and a company in Canada did it, as production had moved to St. Thomas, it was nice, but not as nice as the St. Louis vendor.

Factory Air, but yet only a 1-Speed Wiper Motor.

    Love the 4-Speed part.

Cool how you could order almost anything you wanted back then.

There is a 64 locally that I just came across last night on the inner webs. It's an auto and not anywhere near as nice as this car, but it does have the 327. I may go and look at it just for funzies.
