Great looking Rambler. Loaded with options. "It appeared in the 1998 Robin Williams movie Patch Adams, and in October 2000 graced the pages of Hemmings Special Interest Autos." Would love to own it. Lots of detailed pictures and videos. https://www.hemmings.com/auction/1963-amc-ambassador-tsawwassen-bc-414536 EXTERIOR walk-around https://hmnvideo.hemmings.com/classified/AFisPZnfcwrMcfxgMks46ZWHl10NfL.mp4
That is one heck of a nice wagon! It was interesting to see how much ahead of its time it was. 1963, it had seatbelts, large head rests, and shag carpeting. One thing I thought was strange, was how the tailgate only functions as a door and does not fold down for cargo. This car was really designed to be a people mover. Also, interesting to see the manual seat cushion elevators like some cars have today
As far as I know, they never offered a two-way tailgate. Some would swing open and others would lay down.
You either had a 'door' like on this one, or a traditional 'tailgate', but you couldn't have both. Ford was the first manufacturer to offer a 2-way gate, in 1966.
Checking further, the Ambassador and Rebel station wagons finally got the 2-way tailgate for the 1970 model year.
Beautiful wagon very well preserved. Someone's going to have a really nice car on their driveway. I never realized that they offered that door door or tailgate option.
