Back when air conditioning was not installed in most cars the way to cool the interior was to order a white roof just roll all the windows down. Stylists picked up on that and the no door post sedan or "hardtop" style was born. The hardtops certainly had a stylish look but they also had more flex -construction at the time was mostly body on frame. The buyers of this 4 door Mercury were well aware they were probably getting more rattles than if the car had a post but what the h, it looks good. A beautiful wagon.
