7 bidders. But, 16 bids, 9 of them Bidbots. Last minute entries should be more tense, than watching the Souperboal. It's even got the torque monster engine option
Yes, there is definitely going to be a bidding war on this one. I'm going to keep an eye on it, just to see how crazy it gets at the end.
Just looked at the on-line '59 Mercury brochures available, and they didn't have details on what engines were in what models. There WAS an indication though that the Colony Park had a higher- horsepower engine as standard than the other wagons in the lineup. Indications I just looked up though seem to show a 383 was standard - 322 hp. In 1960, a 430 was standard.
Beginning in 1960, Robert McNamara had the 430 tuned down and no longer made it available with a 4-barrel carburetor. Therefore, the advantage of having one of those, instead of the 383 became marginal. Any post-1959 M.E.L. engine owner who thought ahead would have stocked up on a set of 1958 Marauder pistons, camshaft and induction, in order to offset FoMoCo's new policy
Listing was gone when I woke up this morning. I wonder if someone contacted the seller and offered him a hunk of cash for it. This happens from time to time on Ebay, something really nice (usually a car with no reserve) gets pulled mysteriously before the auction ends.
Ebay Auctions sometimes list a price for an immediate purchase. I didn't notice any there. But then again, I wasn't looking for one. I guess, the purchaser must have figured that frantic last minute bids might push its price way over what would be sensible to fork out
There was no Buy It Now or reserve. Isn't the point of an auction (on the sellers end) is to rake in the highest price possible?
I've been in Both situations. I've Sold a car during a listing on Ebay because the offer to end it is usually awesome. And, let's be honest, sometimes people flake-out on Ebay when it comes to being winning bidder. Also, I've sent a Crazy offer or two to a seller to end the auction on a car I really want. Probaly what happened to that 68 Squire Psych62 saw on Ebay a coulpe weeks ago.
If you mean welching, here in Germany, a welcher can get taken to court for that. Not only will he lose the item bid, he will be barred from further auction participation and will have to fork out money on top of that. But then again, quite a bit of hanky panky goes on that they overlook, under Ebay's watch anyway. So, who knows
