No Reserve: 1957 Mercury Voyager 2-Door Station Wagon for sale on BaT Auctions - ending June 2 (Lot #194,349) | Bring a Trailer
Stupid four-headlamp prohibition in some states ruined the looks on these. These groovy-looking guages might turn off potential buyers, though :
In my totally amateur vehicle stylist opinion, this classic wagon is in need of a second accent color somewhere on the body - probably silver.
That is one rare Merc....these Merc 2 dr hardtop wagons were even pretty rare when new. And they offered them in both the Commuter & Voyager lines, which is a head-scratcher.
Agreed. The unique characteristics of these cars are quite often lost with someone’s happy hands at home projects. The special features of the car with matching interior, and the transmission, as well as colors are kinda of lost on this car. I’d rather buy something marginal and bring it back. This guy needs to find that one buyer that loves green and cream leather.
Hadn't thought of this question before. All I could confirm after looking on-line at 4 different '57 Mercury brochures is..... 1. The Commuter is the base model, the Voyager is a step up, obviously. 2. The Commuter had Mercury's base engine as 'standard' - 312 cubic-inch V8, 255hp 3. The Voyager (along with the Colony Park) had Mercury's larger engine as standard - 368 cubic-inch V8, 290hp. I'm guessing there were probably a few more features/equipment standard on the Voyager, and almost guaranteed it had better upholstery, but there was nothing else in the brochures except a lot of fluff wordage and fancy names for EVERYTHING.
I'm sure, nobody would mind unseen updates such as high-compression pistons which can handle today's gasoline refinement quality, porting and polishing, engine blueprinting or even a slightly hotter cam. Purists would disagree with my preference for swapping its slush box with a modern Turbo-Hydramatic with Switch-Pitch converter, also unseen. But, what this owner did was to vandalize this wagon's charachter beyond recognition. This isn't art, by any means. It's more like unintentional decadent art
