Hi guys, I am new to this forum and I am writing from Iceland for my dad. We are currently trying to finish a restoration of his two 1972 Chevrolet Kingswood Estate. The project has come to a grinding halt because of lack of resto parts, since his cars are two of only three existing here in Iceland and no parts available in the country. We have tried numerous times to find the parts needed through the internet but to no avail. It would be great if this community could give me heads up for where to shop and order these parts from the USA. The parts in question are the following and of course for both cars; Complete NOS or aftermarket weatherstripping, especially for the tailgates, body mounts for both cars, carpets and misc. interior items. I would be very thankful if you could help us with this so we can get these great wagons on the road again. Regards RJR 1972 Chevrolet Kingswood 1972 Chevrolet Kingswood Estate modded on 38'' tires
Some stuff on ebay: http://motors.shop.ebay.com/Parts-Accessories-/6028/i.html?_nkw=kingswood+weatherstrip
Places like Steele Rubber Products and Fusick sell weatherstripping for two and four-door cars, and those that are made to fit 4-door sedans will likely fit a four-door station wagon of the same year. The ebay link given in the post above also shows some vendors selling weatherstrips that should fit the doors at least. As far as the tailgate, forget it! I have a '73 Olds Custom Cruiser, so it's the same vintage as your cars and has the same clamshell tailgate with the window that retracts into the roof. It's my experience that new weatherstripping for these is just not made as the demand would not be enough to offset the cost of reproducing them. Everyone restores sedans, coupes, and convertibles, while no one restores station wagons, so no one makes station wagon-only weathestripping. I've been looking for replacement weatherstrip for the rear window for almost a year now, and I doubt I'll ever find it. I did hear once that someone successfully adapted a Ford weatherstrip of some type, but I know nothing more about that. What it says, though, is that if you want to replace the tailgate weatherstrip at all, you will likely end up having to fabricate something yourself starting with one made for another car. Don't know. I've never looked for them. "Misc" covers quite a lot of ground. Carpeting is easy to get. There are numerous places online who can supply a carpet that will fit your cars in the color you want. The issue, though, is that the carpet supplied only goes as far back as behind the second seat. If you have a third seat in either of these cars, you will want carpeting for that area as well, and that you will have to cut yourself from extra yardage of the carpet you buy for the front. I put new carpeting in my '73 without much trouble, after removing the seats, of course. What other interior items do you need? Whatever they are, it's likely that your sources will be used parts from donor cars. Contacting a place like Desert Valley Auto Parts, link given above, is a place to start.
RJR, the Site Directory has lots of Interior parts and upholstery/carpet vendors: http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/local_links.php?catid=5 Body mounts - Send these guys an email and see if they have a source: http://www.impalas.com/body-hardware/body-mounts/ http://www.offroaddesign.com/catalog/bodymounts.htm
This place seems to have the body mounts. They are the factory rubber style as no one appears to make them in polygraphite or polyurethane. http://www.thepartsplaceinc.com/ocatalog/part.asp?VID=9&CatID=6&YearList=1972
