Hey everyone, I just started on my new project today. I am going to street rod a 1982 Mercury Cougar Villager station wagon. I bought it for 100 bucks and it is in very nice shape. It will get a 351c engine from a 70 cougar and c6 trans. Other than that I'll play it by ear. I will post pictures later.

    Welcome aboard! :Welcome:

You're the first Mercury Cougar owner I've ever heard of to streetrod one. This I have to see! There's so few of them left, that most folks just restore them. Pretty foxy!:rofl2:

From the man who knows. Did you get a lump in your throat over the price he paid, or his plans for it? Gulp! :rofl2:

That is a rare car. Is there any chance you would consider keeping it stock?
    Lets see some pics!

I've always been a Ford freak and when I was younger, I used to love putting 351's in the fox body mustangs and just run them hard. I picked this car because I have always had a fetish for station wagons and vans; plus it was there so cheap, but was hoping that some of the mustang parts, especially suspension and exhaust will fit the wagon. I will have to find a conversion kit for the motor installation. I will post pictures of it as I go.

Trying to decide, it is going to the media blaster next week, but I'm not sure after that. I know the v-6 is going no matter what!! Some of the chrome trim has minor damage to it so if I can't find replacement trim, I'm just going to remove it. Plus, it's hard to be cool with wood veneer on the side...lol. will post pictures later.

351 Cleveland you say........we really need a drooling smiley! Love those motors, grew up with one, in a 70 Cougar,

Part of me wants to side with restore it to stock, and had you mentioned 351 Windsor I'd say keep it stock, but you mention Cleveland........

If a 351 mounts where a 302 does, then all you need is the K-member from a V8 or I4-banger (same K-member) Check your swaybar diameter on the wagon. It should be 1-1/8" diameter. That's as big as they get in the Fox wagons. I've got a V8/I4 K-member, but I'm still waffling about changing to a Turbo I4 - 210 HP on 30 MPG has a certain appeal. But I see that it might be easier/cheaper to Turbo my I6. I just want about 85 HP more (double the I6) and more highway torque to pull the trailer.

if it came with a V6. then he wouldn't have to swap K members, only the inline 6 should have the K member swap out
you will want to swap the 1987 to 1993 5.0 mustang front springs/sway bar and rear sway bar over for the best handle. reuse your rear wagon springs

    for braking:
swap over the 1987 to 93 5.0 front brakes. your wagon should have the 10 inch rear drums. then you will have some stopping power for that cleveland.
