29k original miles? Really? Does anybody bite on that with a 5 digit odometer? Price seems a bit optimistic considering the condition of this low mileage beauty.

Why not??? I have 78K on my '86 Country Squire, and just 40K on my '85 Grand Marquis.

Not every low-mileage car is in pristine condition, lovingly looked after by its OCD owner. Some sit in parking lots, carports, or whatever. I've seen real 250K mile cars that could easily pass for 30K miles, so it's all in how it's taken care of and stored.

This looks more like a $2,000-$2,500 car to me.

Looks good to me for close to the price. Lots of detail work and it may make a great cruiser or drive as is.

Okay then. At that point a clapped out 29k mile car isn't worth any more than a clapped out 129k or 229k mile car. No different than some old 50's Pontiac wagon for sale last year that had an alleged 5k miles. Those 5k miles don't mean much if the car still needs a complete ground up restoration.

If I look at this car based on the condition shown in the pictures alone I see an absolute max $2k car. The 351 is not an adder in my opinion. Aside from looking cool on paper it doesn't offer much more than the base 302. Everybody always clamors for cars to be completely loaded while this car looks to have a pretty basic interior and low options. If Miket1961 was on this thread he would even question why the original owner didn't spring the addition $3.68 to upgrade to the 15" tires.

I do not disagree with you about the asking price - it is definitely too high for the condition this is in, regardless of the mileage. You seem to assume every single car of this age and with a 5-digit odo has to have 100K-plus miles on it, and that is simply not the case. In fact, most cars of this era were considered pretty clapped-out by 100K - THAT was a high-mileage car back then! Look at a 150K-mile car made after 2000, and that is definitely a different story.

I've had $4K on my wagon for several months, with close to 80K miles on it now (it's a daily driver!) and no bites, so this one is certainly worth nowhere near his $4K asking price. I'd be curious at $1,500 or less.

The 14" wheels are not exactly a selling point. Was the 351 even available with the 14" wheels/tires? Seems the 351 would include a tow package, and the 14s are not exactly conducive to that.

    Strange car.

Wheels are changeable, I put 15"s on shortly after.............

I purchased my 80 Colony Park from the original owners, this was in the mid 90's. All stock, 351W 2V, 14" wheels, no tow package,,,,but loaded with leather, power everything, etc.

What my 80 looked like exactly, still have those exact 14" hub caps in my garage addict.

I've always liked the fender louvers on the '79 - '81 Mercurys. Are those functional?

No, they were fake, but they did look good.

I also prefer the 79/80 front bumper compared to the following years......

    79/80 with the mini grills.....

Not so long ago there was an 81 Grand Marquis wagon for sale near work. I very much better condition than this, but with the same basic level of equipment. The asking price was $1,600 including safety inspection. It sold before I could post a link to it. It was a much better car than this one. This is, at the top end, a $1,000 car. I would want to give a good inspection to the under hood wiring, though. That patch of rust on the hood looks like it is burnt paint, either from overheating or from a fire. That is where the problem lies in these cars. The starter relay is right there and can short out with rather drastic results. I am not usually one to give up on a car, but this may prove to be a collection of parts that resembles a car at this point.

They 'function' to make people ask questions about them. That's about it.
