Not crazy about the color. The further down you read the worse it gets. I guess the mechanic on wheels does not replace batteries. And I am sure all that is wrong with the wipers is a fuse. :rofl2:

    For $6,000 couldn't he put in a $100 battery?

We have seen this one for sale before. Everyone was wondering what that add on trim on the right rear panel was hiding.

Yeah, like making a killing on E-Bay. How did that work for you?

Apparently, he didn't insure it for comprehensive. I've got mine insured. How about you guys and gals?

This is the risk you take when you self-insure. Although I expect this guy would have argued the pre-fire value of this one with ins. company even if it were insured. On antique vehicles, it is always better to have a pre-agreed maximum value for the car, in case the worst happens, like here. This one now has value only for parts. He may not get more than the $100 currently bid for it.

Oh no! That is terrible! I hate to see that happen to an old rare car and for someone to take such a loss. Hopefully no one was hurt. It looks like it was an engine fire, probably from a gas leak, or am electrical short under the hood, but who knows? The ad doesn't mention.

I have full coverage insurance on my '72 Kingswood Estate and '73 Grand Ville. I have my wagon covered to $6,000.00 and my Grand Ville to $4000.00. They let me insure to whatever value I wanted, then set my rate on that. I have more than that in the wagon, but at least it would not be a total loss if it was ever totaled.

The original listing said something about the wipers needing a fuse. Looks like an electrical fire in the dash area to me.

Ut oh, hope someone didn't put in a larger fuse. My uncle, who has been a mechanic for years did something STUPID a couple of weeks ago. His Toyota 4x4 truck (1995) which is a very nice truck kept blowing fuses for the back-up lights (that also controlled other things). Like a fool he put in a larger fuse and drove like that for a few days.. turns out he burnt some wires under the dash that go to the computer. He was able to get it out before any major damage, I dont think it even even blazed, just had an electrical smell and blackened the wires, but the result was the removal of the dash panel and a new wiring harness. I told my dad I could not believe he did something so foolish.

The original auction mentions something about new alternator, regulator and a rebuilt carburetor... one of those may have been the cause. Sometimes new parts fail and rebuilt carburetors fail. My grandfather had a '55 Cadillac that is now my uncles. About 15 years ago we were driving it and started smelling something burning. Next thing we know we have to stop and raise the hood and the generator wires were burning. Thankfully my dad was behind us and had a fire extinguisher in his car and put it out. My uncle had just had the generator rebuilt and they did something wrong and it was causing too much power to go to the car. They were able to fix it fairly easily. My grandfather has passed and it was given to my uncle... he still drives it occasionally.
