    Hello,

We recently purchased a Mercury Grand marquis Colony Park 1985.
It turned out that when you turn the key in de front door the lock does not work. On both front doors.
When you press the lock button from the inside, only the back door are being locked. The key lock light on the right door works, on the left it shows no light.
We checked the fuses they are all replaced.
When we try to turn the key it does not go easy there is some sound, but no lock reaction. The right door lock every now and than, but not easy at all.
Do we have electric problems, and if so where do we have to look/surch?.

Hope someone has an idea or had the same problem and found the solution.

    Greets.

There sounds like more than one problem: a mechanical one and an electrical one. I hate to say it, but it would benefit you to remove all four door panels and check each door's mechanisms. one thing that comes to mind on these is the manual lever on the front doors; if the actuator rod is not clipped in, the rod can actually jam the lock system for that door. As for the electrical part, you can have a bad lock motor that holds the rest of the lock system from moving. Start with the front doors to make sure it all works and moves.

To me, it sounds like the lock motors on the front doors have failed, and are preventing the locks from operating. As a temporary fix, simply open up the door and pull the actuator rod from the mechanism. Then the lock should operate manually. It will, with a bit of luck, take about 30 minutes per door to do this. The lock motors are available new, and are held in by one LARGE rivet. Drill this out, and the motor lifts out. You can use a big rivet gun and put new motors in the way the factory did, or you can use a nut, bolt, and lock washer to do the same job. Or you can do the easy thing, and just lock and unlock the front doors manually.
