Hey: I'm a newbie and have wagon's in my blood. I'm looking for help to find the name and/or a copy of the magazine that appeared in Stationwagon forum that shows a 1965 Studebaker Daytona Wagonaire / sliding roof with a Kamp King camper coach mounted on the back. My family actually owned what was either 1 of 5 ever made or the only 1 ever made (depending on who's telling the story). Thanks and, this is a great site~! I love the members photos.

This morning, I just posted a long list of Stude sites here, and there's a couple that link to Wagonaire sites:

Wagon Camper, Ever Seen One? is the correct article. The Stude Wagon with the camper is the one my family owned; bought new in London Ontario in the spring of 1966. Would yyou know the name of the magazine this article originally appeared in?

I went to that picture and right-clicked 'Properties' and got the link to the site: Very interesting.

I zoomed in a bit. It was from Car And Driver Magazine.

Thanks Norm.... i tried to zoom and its all fuzzy. Can you tell what month or year of Car and Driver? Its gotta be 65 or 66. I checked ebay but no issues seem to list the camper article on the front cover. Thanks

Yes and to be exact it is a 1965 Studebaker Daytona Wagonaire with a 283 V8, sliding roof, black leatherette interior with fully reclining front bench seats, ps, pb, am radio and factory installed helper leaves in the rear springs. The camper is a slide in - Kamp King complete with a double bed, kitchenette, water tank, LP stove and ice box. The entire rig was put together as an experimental vehicle by Studebaker and the one my family bought from a London Ontario Stude dealer came complete with California plates.

I remember reading about Studebaker's Avanti, and the writer went back over Studebaker's Lowe (designer) and their design history. You might have to search for Avanti History. That article looks like either a 1966 or 1986/96 date.

The Avanti is still being made somewhere in the US. Since you're in Canada, you should check that link to the NAAACP site and search out the Canadian clubs (Wiinnipeg's was called the Buffalo Studebaker Chapter of the US/CDN Club, but Ottawa (around you) had a pretty strong club too.

Stude Daytona Wagonaire's might come up for sale from time to time but I don't think there will ever be another camper to fit the Stude. I'm located in beautiful downtown Carp Ontario, home of the former CFS Carp military base, better known today as the "Home of the Deifenbunker":thumbs2:.

I may have struck some paydirt!

Somebody has the literature for sale:

Kamp King was made by P & S Camper Mfg. Inc. in Texas:

I think P&S Camper Mfg. Inc. bought out the line, but maybe not. They're referred to in those last two links.
