I am already a member, I just wanted to show you my newest acquisition. The P.O. had it parked for 25 years in his garage saying that "I'm gonna get around to fixing her up someday!". Well, he just passed on and his wife said that it had to go. She's nicely equipped, a 289 2V, Automatic, P/S. and Factory A/C. Needs the headliner fixed or replaced, and to get the lower tailgate repaired. I haven't tried to start her up yet, but I hope that it won't be too much of an ordeal TJ
That is one nice find! 25 years in a garage? Change every liquid in her, including brake fluid. Especially the brake fluid.
'68 Falcon Wagon Right now the brake pedal goes to the floor. There is a length of new brake line in the car, probably to fix that problem. Like my '68 Sedan, I plan on putting on Power Disc Brakes. TJ
Great find. I'm glad he had the forethought to put it in the garage 25 years ago, as opposed to leaving it in his driveway. That would not have been a good thing. Good luck with it and keep us up to date with pictures.
People don't seem to know that brake fluid is acidic to steel, once the lines are open for any length of time. They do condense and rust on the outside and around the fittings. Not a nice surprise to get if you're on the road with it.
'68 Falcon Well, I guess that I (my buddies & I) will have to replace the complete system just to be safe. I guess that then would be a good time to use synthetic fluid. I hope to get my front disc brakes before we "get er done!" TJ
I left my wagon's brake manual. I did an Aerospace 4-piston caliper disc kit on the front. I'm crossing the finish line at the dragstrip at about 118mph, and have NO problem stopping by the 2nd turn off. Total price of the kit was under 800, and it was about 35lb.s lighter than a Granada disc set-up I don't have to worry about vacuum problems. My wife is 135lbs. and she has no problem with the brakes, either. I like the old "keep it simple" approach. Lee
Falcon When I did the disc brakes in my '68 Falcon Sedan, I just used a set up from a '69 Torino. I know where I can get another set up from a '68 Ranchero. TJ
Unless you are making a race car stay away from the DOT 5 brake fluid. You won't be happy. Most stock parts are not compatible.
Falcon It was previously titled in New Mexico, so it is in pretty good shape. The lower tail gate doesn't have any "bubbles", but you can see the wiring hanging out. It has minor dings and surface rust, I have to look closer at the "dog legs", they have small pinpoint holes and the paint has a little bit darker tinge to it. The under body is very clean, as is the engine compartment. I am very pleased as to the condition of the body & paint. Of course there are mechanical items that need to be taken care of, hell if you had sat around as long as this wagon has, well you get the idea. Thanks for your interest. TJ
