If this car is as good as it looks, the current bid is abiut ΒΌ what the car is worth. This should be a $10,000 car any day of the week. She is a true beauty, and a not often seen model.

I'd got $10K, were I in the market. Nice car, and you do not see a lot of big, yellow wagons these days.

The Old Cars Price Guide says that this car in showroom condition with the 383 V-8 is worth about $7,000.

Few wagons are worth five figures. This isn't one of them.

Old cars price guide has A LOT of WAY-OFF PRICES on these old cars!
I mean, this car show-room mint would pull AT LEAST 10-12 K on Ebay.
That Blue one that was pretty much a twin to this one sold VERY FAST
2 Months ago. There was a thread on it.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima

Let's see where it goes on eBay. It's a very pretty Monaco wagon, and rarely seen, especially in this condition.

The OCPG, Hagerty's, NADA, and the others are so wrong, so much of the time. They make for very entertaing reading, but as a source of actual value, not so much.

I'll say it, yet again: The value of ANY vehicle is what the SELLER and BUYER agree to. Period, dot. Every day of the week.

No one disputes this, but it's a trivial point because it's obvious. It's like saying it's pointless to have weather forecasts because it will rain where and when it wants to. Period, dot. Every day of the week.

But this doesn't negate the value of the price guides. Just like it's still worthwhile to have a reasonable idea of where and when it might rain when planning outdoor activities, it's worthwhile to know where the market is on a certain car if you're a seller or buyer.

No one likes an ad where the seller says simply "make me an offer, my car is only worth what someone will pay me for it." Potential buyers want to see an asking price. Always. It's the first question asked if it's not given. Many people just pass by without a second thought ads without an asking price unless they're very interested in that particular car. But a seller risks losing a potential sale by not listing an asking price.

The price guides serve a purpose, just like the Kelly Blue Book site does for late model cars, in helping to establish a value, trade-in, wholesale, retail, whatever. Sellers can add or subtract to their heart's content, but at least they have a starting point.

Another heavy user of price guides is insurance companies. They're rarely take a customer's say-so on the value of his car without some independent corroboration. That's why Hagerty has its price guide service.

Price guides can help with establishing value for insurance purposes. So do appraisals. But where to appraisers get their info? From a variety of sources, including price guides.
