Good Day to all: It has been quite a while since my last post after acquiring the 1965 Mercury Commuter wagon from San Diego. Most of you will probably remember my "before" pictures including the 1966 Colony Park donor car. I have been silently toiling away in hopes of enjoying it this summer. With the advice and helping hands from my good friends, Lee Harrison, Dan Diebert and Barry Obermeyer, suggestions from many of you and Mick Hoglund of woodgrainforwagons.com who provided the excellent new dy-noc woodgrain vinyl. He provides an excellent product which is very forgiving and easy to install. The fun is mostly focused on driving now. You will see that I transferred and refinished the wood from the Colony Park. Likewise the interior, including tilt column, power windows, power seats, roof rack and the upgraded Colony Park stuff. Currently rebuilding the tilt column and waiting for front seat upholstery. Will share more complete photos once everything is finished. In the meantime, here are some photos of the exterior so far for your viewing pleasure. Thanks again to everyone for their help and support. Henry
Seems like you've been doing a lot of work and it is paying off. That is a very nice wagon. Stop being quiet and post these progress reports as they happen. I'm also facinated by your garage. Looks like it is really a heavy duty structure. Good luck on your future changes and start enjoying the wagon.:2_thumbs_up_-_anima
Nice job! That Colony Park is really nice. Can you recall where the before pictures are as I'd love to take a look. Keep up the good work and go enjoy it Oh, I found them. Here they are: http://www.stationwagonforums.com/forums/gallery/browseimages.php?do=member&imageuser=9562
Beautiful car!!! (OK, the wheels and the surf boards aren't my style but the work is primo) Congratulations. mike
It is a very pretty wagon. I like the wheel/tire combo and how they work with the rest of the wagon. The wood is really nice, the whole wagon just all comes together very nicely. Not surprised at how nicely it has turned out given how particular Henry is with everything he takes on.
The wheels Thanks for all of your kind comments. In response to the question concerning the wheels, they came on the donor 1966 Colony Park. Originally, I thought they were OEM as they were covered with full wheel disc hub caps. After further investigation I found they were "apparently" a very early (late 60's early 70's) Keystone aftermarket wheel. I have never seen a set before so decided to use them. I was planning to use the spider caps on regular steel wheels which normally have a rather unsightly hub cap retainer ring. These Keystone wheels are smooth and lend themselves well to the spider cap treatment. H
