No longer the same license plate as last year, but how many tan 1974 Oldsmobile Custom Cruisers could there be in Manitoba some 40 years after new? :)

Car looks to be in nice shape. Price is way too high, low mileage or not. Unusual in that it has a manual tailgate. Generally see those more on the lower-end Chevy wagons.

Production of '74 Custom Cruisers, at least, wasn't particularly low. It was second lowest overall, but only 152 fewer than 1975.

I don't have figures for the other makes.

Total of 2 and 3-seat production, Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser:

    1971: 8,700
    1972: 24,994
    1973: 38,921
    1974: 15,916
    1975: 16,068
    1976: 22,316

In all cases, 3-seat wagon production vastly outpaced (often 2 or 3 to 1) that of the 2-seat wagons.

I attribute the low production of '71 to the fall 1970 GM strike, which started in mid-September that year and lasted for just over two months, and the fact that that was the first year for the clamshells.

Production jumped quickly after that, peaking in 1973, when the Arab oil embargo hit. Production fell drastically for 1974 as a result and recovered slowly as people got used to the higher gas prices.

How are those manual tailgates to lift?

While I've never lifted one, I doubt they were difficult to lift. They were meant to be lifted by anyone, male or female. Probably no more difficult than lifting, say, a trunk lid. They were counterbalanced just like a garage door or trunk lid is.

Yes, that is what I've always heard about their being counterbalanced for ease of use. A friend of mine's mom had a 1974 Grand Safari with manual gate - he says it was very easy to use.

Ah, Thanks. I heard somewhere that it was difficult but from a marketing standpoint does that make sense? I think "No."

Not necessarily all that over priced given the condition and options.

Very close in appearance to the 1974 Oldsmobile factory brochure wagon.
