Talk about rare?! You hardly ever saw these in 1982! Looks like a steal for a grand! http://cleveland.craigslist.org/cto/4672696495.html
I just called this guy. He doesn't know much about the car except that it probably needs a power steering rack, and it definitely leaks fluid. The car can only be seen Monday-Friday, 9-5 and the owner or whatever has the kind of "time is money"-type attitude that makes you not want to buy a car off them. He said he didn't look too closely at the car, because he wants to keep the price down, and the more time he spends with it, the more the price goes up. I wish I had the power to increase the price of things by just looking at them...
Has full gauges, that's a fairly rare option, especially considering how few other options it has. The horrid 1.8 4cyl would scare me away from that car. They were noisey, slow, weak, and blew head gaskets. The 2.0 and later 2.2 were better, but if I wanted a J-wagon I'd find a V6 model. MUCH better all-around. That said this looks like a good body for a project car. Find a rusted-out Sunbird GT with good mechanicals and swap everything over. I do like the "Baby '77-78" Firebird front end styling these had. -Mike
Wasn't this car the Pontiac equivalent of the Chevy Citation? I seem to recall it was the equivalent of something in the Chevy line-up.
It's a J-car. Cavalier, J2000 (Sunbird), Skyhawk, Cimmaron, Firenza All the same cars, especially in 1982. -Mike
Yeah, the Chevy Citation was "related" to the Pontiac Phoenix, Oldsmobile Omega and Buick Skylark - the "X" cars.
Hey! Not a car I "like" by any stretch, but it deserves respect for no other reason than as a survivor as a very rare model! It was obscure as new and practically unknown now 32 years later!
Price has actually gone up to $1500! Good luck with that. Ha! http://cleveland.en.craigslist.org/cto/4672696495.html
He'll get $2000 for it, it'll get detailed and a little surface rust removal, and show up on eBay for $7500 in the spring. I was interested at $1000, underpowered as it may be I'd still drive it and swap in a 2200 later on when the original 1.8 dies. Not if, but when.
The '85 - '86 6000 also sported Firebird-inspired front ends. I actually hated those Firebirds when they were new (possibly because of some obnoxious owners I knew at the time), but I mellowed quite a bit after I bought an '86 6000 wagon.
