When I was around 10 - 12 yrs. old, I'd spend the summer running around in my Uncle's 'work wagon', a '59 3-door wagon! 2-drs on the pass. side, and only 1 on the drivers - kinda like the old Suburbans. He delivered bar supplies to all the taverns in Lake County, Illinois, and I don't remember his 'shape' after we returned to the house. Anyone got one of these? I've never seen another!
I don't think you're going to find one of these. The 2-door and 4-door '59 Chevy wagons would have had an identical profile, except for the location of the 'B' pillar - the 2-door wagons having longer front doors to allow for easier entry into the back seat. Certainly something like what you are talking about could be built, but it would have required interrupting the production line - something that manufacturers are not likely to do. The vehicle itself would also look rather odd, with offset B-pillars. My guess is that what you saw was actually a regular 4-door wagon, with the left rear door possibly welded shut and/or the outside handle removed. Probably done by an outside vendor at the request of your uncle's employer.
That's a 2-door (the tailgate doesn't count as a 'door' on older wagons, as far as terminology). What '65 2dr' said was that the left side of his uncle's work vehicle had only the driver's door, while the right side had 2 doors, making it a '3-door' wagon (+ the tailgate). Marshall
No - not then. [the drinkin part] I did see some advertising that had it in there, though, but don't remember where. Fatter-of-mact, seems it coulda been available in '60, too - just don't remember what they called it?! Don't think it was special order - he wasn't into that.
I've been around Chevys for many, many years and I have never heard of one, but I guess anything is possible. Seeing it was your Uncle, maybe you could check with your cousins or any other family members that might have some pictures. Bill
They're gone, and the 2 adopted kids vanished 20 yrs. ago, in their 20's. Think I saw the brochure at a friends shop in the city, but don't go there much with the price of fuel.
65 2dr, So far it has 280 Views and 1 Reply and still no one has ever heard of one. I posted it on just about the best Chevy site anywhere, Chevytalk.com ('58-'60 Full Size Forum). Bill
I might be able to help with a "hypothetical" answer.. Back then, GM would build just about anything that was requested of them if it was for a major corporation that was a volume purchaser. As an example, GM routinely built vans with windows on one side, and solid sides on the other. Ford and Dodge also did the same for the telephone companies. I remember seeing many oddities at the dealerships that were custom ordered vehicles. My 1962 Chevy Bel Air wagon was converted into an ambulance, and I have recently discovered that it was shipped from the factory without moldings on the car, but included loose in the back of the vehicle among some other oddities about the vehicle. I had a 1934 Dodge 1/2 ton pick up that had an 8' long bed, but could never find any information about it by looking at sales brochures. I came across a Chrysler parts book at a swap meet, and at the back of the book, there were a few pages that gave the information that I was looking for. It was a special "job" for AT&T.
geez man....the kids got a 2dr sedan delivery,a 2dr wagon,,,and 2 -4dr wags.....but even ive never heard of one. but like Junk said....those were the days when the big 3...actually catered to the public....as opposed to the force feeding we get now so it could be
