A big "no way!" on the woodgrain idea. Too awkward-looking, to me. A two-door would've been great, but that itty-bitty triangular window would have to be filled in. The plain wagon would've been a seller, I believe. Note in the picture that the sedan passenger-side "C"-pillar can be seen through the interior!
Yeah -The article author did it on his own I believe. Suppose it would take a bit more skill to do it all.
I owned a '79 New Yorker back in '07...paid a grand for it with just 77K miles on it. Two-tone maroon and red, with red leather, full power and air, and wire wheel covers. Great riding car, but got maybe 13 mpg in town. The guy who bought it off me 18 months later drove flew in and drove it to southern Ohio. He got 22 mpg with that 360. Neat ride.
I had 2 1980 New Yorkers and yes they were comfortable many 20 hr drives. A ny wagon would be cool ny coupe could be made with marada doors.
