For any folks in the Austin - Centex Area, It looks like some of our local group is going to start a new Saturday night Cruise-In meet location in Georgetown Tx.

From about 8 pm or so until sometime after 10 pm or so at the Lake Aire shopping center on Williams Drive about a mile west of I35. The PIT BBQ is on one side and there is a Chevron on the other side of the parking lot.

ALL are welcome, no snobbery, just bring-what-you-got. Only ask is that no loud music or burnouts. We do not want to be kicked out of this location due to kids-stuff!

Hope to see a big turnout tonight! (y)

First Georgetown TX Saturday Cruise-In - Fun evening, but HOT. Decent turn-out considering so few people know about this. LOTS of parking, lighted lot. BBQ on one side of the lot and Chevron Food Store on the other, but the strip mall is medical and ALL closed at night. NICE! I can see this meet growing as the word gets out! Hope to see more folks up there soon!! Oh and big thanks to Bob Ford for lettinh Tuck sit in "The Hoss"!! Enjoy the pics!!

Really good turn out for first night. Thanks.
Reminds me of our weekend cruise nites back in Illinois. Mostly the far back end of a K-Mart and Pizza Hut lot. large lot like that one. Had DJ and lots of prizes for many years. Have no idea what happened. That cruise in and most in our hometown just stopped after awhile.
One was because a few shop owners complained about their parking spaces. Their business had increased too. So when the cruise ins stopped they eventually didn't need the customer space either.:banghead3:
Seems like local cruise ins come and go, just like when we were kids. They are fun places to take families and cars just to hang out and visit.

We had a fantastic cruise-in spot in Cedar Park, at the intersection of two major roads. It grew and grew over a few years, but finally the only store still opened at the time of the cruise-in, a liquor store, complained to the property management team that we were "running off business".

Since then, thankfully there are a lot of local shows, the Top Notch Drive-In, which is great but has limited parking, and Cabela's Saturday cruise-in, which is BIG, but far FAR south of Austin in Buda.

We've not had a good meeting place on the north side of town since Cedar Park went out. Hopefully the word will get out and this event will grow. Being in a medical center parking lot, all the business are closed at the time of the meet, and there is a good BBQ place on one end of the lot and a gas station food store at the other, for drinks and snacks.

The only real downside is this place is about a mile off the highway, and it's very far north, so people will need to know where it is and plan to go there. The central Austin folks will have a choice of going south to Buda or North to Georgetown. I hope the north folks will come to the new event.

Trying to spread the word. Oh and like most cruise-in's, for this to last we're trying to make it clear this is a "No Boom, No Burn" event. No loud stereos and no burnouts.... We want this show to last!

Good luck Mike. Some small businesses just don't understand that cars and people in nearby parking lots bring customers. Even the liquer store.
Another place we lost back in Illinois had a large multistore plaza and most places were closed early. One stinking cleaners stayed open till maybe 9PM. The guy is a relative of mine, cousin born the same day. And I thought he was a car guy. He ended up getting the cruise nites shut down. Complained to the city that his customers didn't have room to park. :49:
And the kids with boom boxes, noisy exhaust, and burn outs just love to stop in those cruise ins. It took awhile to convince police that they were not part of the car group.
Down here in small town boonies Florida there are not many places to park with food and restrooms and not many cruisers in the tri-county area. A dozen cars or maybe two is a good nite. First ten years a lot showed up but rednecks have a short attention span. :biglaugh:What?
