Sorry I've not visited this site in a while and was suprised at the great discussion that followed my initial posting about the 65 Merc Comet.

Yes, I hate like hell to sell the Comet Wagon. I can most clearly recall the new car smell (which it still faintly has), like it was yesterday. When my older sister picked me up from early dimissal the last day of school in June of that year... the day my dad bought it, it was a "top of the world" feeling.

I believe it was June 5, 1965. (1st grade) That day my sister was also named valedictorian of her high school class. I felt like the king of the world. My father was doing well as an electrician making good money. And my mother had yet to experience a series of psychiatric issues which began in '67 and affected our family thereafter. It was her car and hence the limited mileage the Comet has to this day... 90,000. Mom died in March 2008 and Dad died August 2009.

So it is not without deep sentimental soul searching and agony that I have chosen to liquidate this asset. I need to let go of the old to make way for the new. Not just in terms of automobiles but also in fresh perspectives on life.

This forum is a sanctuary for the car. No where else would I trust it to be revered and my story well understood. That said, I would gladly sell it to a Station Wagon lover for $3000.00. The car is in Illinois yet was not "rode hard and put away wet" like most utilitarian sixties cars in the rust belt.

    Thanks guys. Bob

Comet Wagon is 6 cylinder 200 cubic inch. Automatic Transmission. Interior is perfecy and exterior needs buffing out. It is in Illinois. I hate to sell it but I need to liquidate some possessions. I would take $3000.00 for the car.
