Hello, I am a new member. I just bought today a 1978 Mercury Colony Park wagon, and I am hoping that someone here can direct me to a good resource for new exterior siding. Thank you, Redpony68
Congratulations on the purchase and welcome to the forums. We have a newly created sub forum with information on wagon woodgrain here.
It is a visual hobby, I'll give you that Rev! I still don't have a digital camera, but then who wants to see a 6 foot high snowdrift! Pics, pics, pics, here a pic, there a pic. You're right, gulp. Hey Red, welcome to club! A 1978 Ford Wagon, eh. Came to the right place.
Thank you Thank you all for the welcome. I am a 43 year male in Southern California. I have been telling my friends tonight about my purchase of a 1978 Colony Park (someday I hope to own a 65' Country Squire and a 59 Commuter...the Holy Grail of wagons) NONE of my friends can understand why I am so excited. I guess you wouldn't understand unless you are of a certain age. When I was a kid, growing up in Navy housing, it seemed in my mind that the Officers wives drove Country Squires, Town & Country, Colony Park, Bonneville Estate, Caprice Estate wagons, etc. My family never got a woody wagon. I distinctly remember being with furious with my Dad because in 1970 we bought an Impala wagon...not a Kingswood, but just an Impala...with no wood! Then in 1974 we had a Pinto wagon! In 1978 we went car shopping at City Chevrolet in San Diego. I prayed that we would get either the Monte Carlo in two tone blue OR the Caprice Classic wagon with wood! My best friend John's family had just purchased a new Country Squire, with the rear facing seats, and I had to one up him!!! My world nearly ended when we left 2 hours later....with a baby blue Malibu, roll down windows in the front , no rolling windows in the back, just those stupid vent windows, vinyl interior, AM radio, no air, and cheesy hubcaps. I guess part of me is trying to relive my childhood (the way I wanted it to be). For some reason I am so happy to have FINALLY acquired a wood sided wagon! Where did all those wagons go? EVERY one in my neighborhood had a wagon, and by the late 80's they were a dime a dozen. Sadly I think most have ended up in salvage yards or in the crusher. My ultimate dream would be to tow a vintage Airstream behind my wagon and see all of the United States of America! Thanks for you welcome and the links.
Now here's an airstream... http://www.russellw.com/planes/ryan/polishing.htm Here. http://www.airforums.com/forums/ Too many distractions for me.
