Spotted this at the top of the page here and I have to say I would kill for this car. It looks so period perfect. I remember these cars well and have driven them back in my day. I couldn't resist posting it for all to see. What an absolute beauty!
Fox - my brother had a convertible 57 Merc. Gorgeous car but talk about rusty. He sold it when a buddy jumped over the door and when he landed on the floor his feet went right through and the bro got scared that the frame was an issue. It went to a wrecker, wasn't there very long, and someone bought it. He would love a wagon like this. I wish I could afford to buy one and surprise him. Thanks for posting this. I'll send him the picture at least. It will make his day.
Well, Saf...it sure made MY day. I love this car. Like BFM said...I wish I was filthy rich. It's a perfect representative of the era that I remember and love. These were real cars with status!
A highschool buddy had a 1957 or 58 Mercury Turnpike 4 door HT. One tall, lanky kid, basketball star, etc. He had the front seat so far back, that he could only seat 2 people comfortably, lying across the backseat! He could get 3 skinny kids in the front though. Huge comfortable cars!
Sure have seen a lot of pink / magenta cars lately. They seemed to be all over the car show I was at last Saturday. This is one even I wouldn't mind having, and I don't like any red / pink shade..... - It's just done so well.......
Oh my - and I got upset with the DW when she dropped her bubblegum inside the car - this poor guys wife got it ON the car It is so darned expensive to strip and paint a car I often wonder how people afford to do trendy paint jobs that in a few years often need to be changed so you will want to continue to drive it......but hey, who am I to judge someone else's choice of color - I'm mostly color blind. There are times when that is a very good thing (except when I'm wiring something). But I want/need that beautiful interior.
It truly was beautiful, Saf, particularly the interior - very luxurious. Here's a pic: ( Man - should have got better pics of the inside...... ) Anyway, the only thing that I didn't like on it was the 4-speed manual trans....
My '58 is a manual transmission (3spd) and I felt lucky to find it. Just a personal preference,(like color), but I've even toyed with the idea of converting my '67 to a 3 pedal car. If I had that car, I'd change the paint before I'd switch transmissions. That is BRIGHT pink....
The Merc wagon that I posted....maybe some of the younger guys here wouldn't know this....that color combo is factory. That's one thing I like about that wagon...it is pretty much period perfect. As for the Poncho bubble gum wagon...I'm with Saf on that one. I think you would get tired of that color, KK. And tired of the ribbing.
That is one nice interior - from the little teeny weenie glimpse of course Really appreciate your taking the pics and posting them KK. Our interior is 40 year old black button tufted that could easily be spelled tough-ted - it has seen far better days. No tears but it is definitely tired. A friend who is very color conscious and has what we consider outstanding taste has suggested that we stay with black with a silver insert but I like the white or cream so we'll see. I want this style but she who knows all and is the keeper of good taste in the family has yet to pass judgement (and the money) and as for the actual color combo she will ultimately make the choice and it will be exactly what I like (yep, I can do anything I want, when I want, with whom I want - as long as my wife gives her permission and is paying for it )
