Unable to locate the perfect match woodgrain for your project?

Here is the solution a friends roomate came up with:

That's textured linoleum floor tile you're looking at. He removed all the moldings, cleaned off the old woodgrain, scuffed up the panels and cut the new "decals" to shape, adhered them with contact cement and then re-installed the moldings.
It looked a lot better in real life than in these crummy scanned pictures, but you get the idea.

Now lets see YOUR woodgrain substitutions ...:rofl2:...

    That's the idea!:rofl2:

I heard that when the Mongolians had to cross a wide desert, that they'd let the camels drink all they wanted and just when they seemed about to finish, they'd get behind them with two bricks and brick 'em. The shock would cause them to suck in a couple more gallons for the trip! :rofl2::rofl2: Good GPW (Gallons per whack!) Early version of the nutcracker.:rofl2:

    Neato!

Pics look fairly old too... by looking at all of the cars in the background these were probably taken in the late 80s or 90s?

You're quite correct, the pics are from around 1990.

Silverfox: The pictures don't do the car justice. It really looked excellent in person. He did a really nice job with this mod. Everything was cut cleanly and nicely and the handles and trim were re-installed properly with no ugly gaps or edges. The car was always kept very clean and nice. His main complaint was having to use 2 different types of wax since the car wax left white buildup on the linoleum. He waxed that with "Future" acrylic liquid floor wax.

    It IS a good idea.
We don't all need to use bricks of course :)

But as long as one isn't committed to all-original, why not?
