I worked at a Jaguar/Volvo dealership in the mid 80's as a lot boy.
They had those Volvo 850 turbo wagons.........
After driving so many cars, they became my favorite due to the handling and acceleration. On par with a Jag or better.

    edit:
I stand corrected, they must have been 740s as per the info from FordWagonNut1979 :cheers2:

My parents had a 74 Chevy Caprice, Burgundy, Loaded, Black Vinyl, Woodgrain, 400SBC, Th400 auto, and mystery geared possi rear-end. I fell in love with it as a kid, and rue'd the day my father sold it when I was a kid, in 85 when they purchased a one year old 84 Olds Custom Cruiser. They sold the Chevy, to a woman around the corner. When I turned 14, I bought the car back from her. Later, my parents bought a Caravan, and I acquired the 84 Olds. So I sold the Chevy...Big Mistake. After the Olds was tired, and got wiped out by a town plow truck while sitting in front of the house one snowy night ( Midnight Blue Air-Craft Carrier, sitting in white snow, in front of the house...But the guy says "I didn't even see it sitting there"..Go figure.) Next in the line up was another 74 Caprice, Loaded, Almond, w/Camel Vinyl, 454, th400, and mystery Possi rear, for $400.oo Mint mint mint...Wish I still had her today.
Later, came the 88 Custom cruiser,, Loaded, Brown, woodgrain w/tan velour interior. Put a monster Merlin Chevy Big Block in the thing and made an awesome, and almost un-streetable car out of her. Still have her, won't ever part with her.

Dad, had purchased a pick-up truck in the mean time, a few years later he sold it and got into a Buick Estate wagon. He drove that one into the ground, and then a twin to it a few years later.

As the second one got tired out he started looking for another full-sized GM Wagon. He spotted this Diesel one at a friend of mines' place, and backed out as soon as he found out it was diesel, after I looked at the car for him. I fell in love, he was scared of the car, so I bought it for myself...That's how I acquired "Dreadnaught".

Shortly after that, I found him the '91 Chevy Caprice, he drives today.

Growing up, Mom had a 66 Cutlass wagon that unfortunately met an untimely demiss (man that thing was quick):162: . Next it was a 72 Pontiac that trucked us all over and back. I have always had a love for them, and have had a few as drivers. Most recently, I have owned a 77 LTD Country Squire, 91 Corolla wagon (daily driver) a 73 Catalina, which unfortunately I had to sell:banghead3: . But as luck would have it, I just picked up an 89 Colony park with 64,xxx miles on it. It needs a little work, but it is in good condition. It still doesn't fill the void of my clamshell, but I couldn't let this one pass me by. I will get pics soon. BTW if anyone knows of a good clamshell project for sale around Ohio....HINT HINT:D :D

I fell in love with station wagons long ago--perhaps my large family (2 parents, 10 kids) grew up with station wagons!

The first one I can remember is our green 1978 Chrysler LeBaron Town & Country; the other one we had at the time was a brown 1976 Buick Century wagon. Often, both would be used to carry us around if necessary.

No wonder my ultimate dream car is a green 1978 Chrysler LeBaron Town & Country! I'm on the hunt now!

By the way, the Chrysler T&C would be a fitting "final ride" for me! (Referring to the "Final Ride" thread on this forum)

Well I learned to drive out on those back roads in a 61 Chevy Biscayne wagon in 1964. The car was turquoise everwhere, sure wish I had that car today. Also the little old lady that lived next door had a mint, unrestored 60 Impala wagon.

Haha, I kid. I have ALWAYS had a soft spot for them growing up. I was sorrounded with friends who like El Camino's and Chevelles and all the "belly button" muscle cars, and I was never into them. I always thought that the wagon version of a 70 Chevelle was way cooler cause nobody liked them.

Years went by, and The Rev and I were at a car show in Portland, or Vancouver, Washington it may have even been, and there was a lady with a '59 Brookwood, and that was it. I was always a 59 Chev fan, but that wagon sold me.

    Now I own 4.[IMG]

Plus, the multiple purchases are no thanks to the Rev......who has a desease......haha......

for me, like a fair amount of us, it was because i spent a majority of my childhood being chauffeured around in one. and i spent most of my summers darn near living in one because of all the road trips. we always owned buicks-the first one was bought back in about 1986, and the last one sold in 2003 when we graduated to a gmc yukon denali.

first we had a 1977 estate wagon with the 403 in it. this wagon was destroyed by coworkers of my father's who he lent it to. needless to say, he wasnt very happy about that! then we had a 1983 estate wagon, which was hit by a dominos pizza lady. it wasnt anything too serious, and we had it fixed, but my mom didnt feel safe driving us young ones around in it anymore. so we sold it. we then had a beautiful 1985 or so burgundy firemist estate wagon with the burgundy interior. it really was a beautiful car, with the aluminum "turbine" wheels. that car saved my dads life when he was following behind a cargo van which had no brake lights. by the time my dad realized he was slowing down because of a cop car making a left turn in front of him, it was too late. the car was a total loss, but my dad walked away after being checked out at the hospital because of that wagon. the funny part was that he had the imprint of the steering wheel and buick logo on his stomach for about a week and a half! then we had a nice white 1987 estate wagon, which we enjoyed for quite a while, until it too was in an accident. this dumb broad, sorry if thats offensive, was talking on her cell phone and blew a stop sign and t-boned us in the middle of the intersection! we had the third seat folded flat and i was laying down back there looking out the window and saw her coming right for me! i got thrown across to the other side of the wagon. i was fine, but a bit shaken up, as any young kid would be. i was more upset for our wagon because of what that "mean lady" did to it! this brought upon our final wagon, a 1993 buick roadmaster. with the tbi 350 in it. we probably had this wagon the longest out of any of them. too many miles to even count were logged in on this roadwarrior! we made numerous trips to the east coast for vacations and to see family. and had a couple of trips south as well. and no, this wagon was never in an accident, although that is the trend! it was sold when we decided to move up to the yukon denali. its a nice truck, but thats just what it is, a truck. it now kills us with gas prices, and the resale values for it just keep getting worse. needless to say, we all miss our wagons!

but that is why my dad has bought a couple of vintage woodsided warriors now, a few years after getting rid of our roady wagon. all of those old buicks were my moms daily drivers, and thats what the denali is now for her. but my dad had always loved station wagons, and with people getting rid of them so cheaply, at least a couple of years ago, he couldnt pass up the opportunity to buy back some of HIS childhood roadwarriors. and obviously that passion has spread to me! lol. so there is my very, very long winded reason for loving station wagons! they were a part of the family! just like the dog...only bigger!
