Hello everyone, I was sent over to this site by a guy from ClassicOldsmobile.com My dad is trying to clear out space in his garage and no longer wants to keep his 76 Olds Custom Classic. Does anyone have a recommendation other than eBay/craigslist/hemmings? I'd like to find it a good home since it's the car I grew up in. In case anyone is curious, here are some photos. -Russell
Hi Russell, normally we don't like first time posters who just want to sell but you did it with class, friendly intro, a bit of a story, and pics, and not just...."4-$ALE", nicely done. I think you'll find you'll get more help and info from the gang because of this. You grew up in the wagon, any reason your not going to snag it up for your self? PS....Nice wagon!
My apologies to anyone I may have offended. I was looking for a couple of pointers only. I'm always impressed at the cars everyone has here. To me, it was just the family car. Clearly, you guys are all way into these classic cars. -Russell
If you was closer to me I would jump at that car. I love them olds wagons. GREAT lookin car. Might I ask what you are planning on asking fer it?
Russell, you've got to get out and drive that car! Just take a short 20 mile trip, feel the ride, feel the comfort. Feel the power and you'll drive your Miata much less. Really though that's a fine looking wagon. This is one place that you can market the car but for bigger audiences and bigger exposure definately hit up the Oldsmobile clubs etc.
Russell, you say you're looking for a good home for it, but it already has the best home possible and that would be under your ownership! It's been in your family for 34 years; it really should stay there. You could buy it from your dad and look at it as an investment. Even if you don't use it, (frankly I can't see how anybody wouldn't use it--it's so darned comfortable and fun to drive), an Olds wagon that nice is absolutely going to appreciate in value. Percentage wise, it may be one of the best investments you'll ever make. More importantly, though, than the investment. is just the family history of the car; your Dad's had it since day one. Don't sell it!!!
k...i wasnt gonna say HI...cuz of what Teddy said....but i get the feeling .....that with a lil prodding....you may be inclined to keep her shes a stylish yacht!!...id say keep it...luv it...
The Vannerz used tah say "If the antennas are rockin' don't bother knockin'" Us'n that'er into the long roofz been knowin' that for way longer then them vans 'n Vannerz been on the planet Be verrrry careful 'for yeah part with that Puppy:banghead3: Yeah already got ah winner
Hi guys, Sorry,I haven't been here in a while. I would love to keep it. But, I've already got 2 cars and don't really want to garage a 3rd. Besides, I'm sure someone who loves station wagons would get more out of it than I would. Dad would rather have a car with ABS, air bags, etc. To him, it was just a car. As to Big Ugly's question, I have almost no idea what it was worth. I was going to put it up on Craigslist/Hemmings/eBay at 5k. Too high? Too low? It's been garaged it's whole lifetime in California. Any clues to what I should add for information? TIA Russell
RTom, I wonder if you and I are of the same age..? I grew up in my dad's '76 Chevy Caprice Estate (sibling to your dad's car). I absolutely love these wagons and currently own a '75 Caprice Estate that I purchased from the original owner a few years ago. Where in California is the car? Where are you? Is it currently registered in CA? Private message me if you prefer. Matthew
I finally got around to trying to sell this car. Thanks to everyone for the help. If you know of anyone who might be interested, I'll knock a couple of hundred dollars off for the people associated with this board. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/1839654034.html
Unless it's got hidden problems, you should be able to sell it for that. Only drawback I can see is the crank windows. PW's are preferable on a big Olds.......
