Aha! Thanks. That is useful info. Mine has the 'U' type. It sucks. But that system does require major surgery. I guess it helps keep the window hatch properly aligned as well.
If you go to Wyoming classic cars online there are several wagons for sale at least there were last summer. It is a yard in Casper Wyoming that has over 1200 classic cars some drivers some parts cars
I'm guessing thats Pearsonville. Thats what it looks like and as I recall, they don't crush cars. Countyline had alot of interesting vintage tin when I was last there, but I know they crush cars. The only other yard I know of near you is Speedway, and that one is too small to have much.
IMO, the door lack design takes a beating if not aligned 101%. My first Fox fairmont had the lach design and I never had a problem with it. Both my 80's Fox wagons with the door lach design ended up with stress cracks in the tail gate where the screws mounted it to the gate. Pros and cons I guess, once down it's a heavy gate closing on that latch with a punch. That was the only real (welding) repairs I ever had to do, and only in the door lach Fox wagons.
Rev, maybe you know of "Maxwells Auto Wreaking" here on the island? The ONLY old stuff he has are three 65 Ford fairlanes, a couple 2 doors, and one wagon.....one of the two doors is stacked on top of the wagon. He keeps the cars because he has a driving 65 two door. There is Sooooo much stuff still left on that wagon, but the roof is caved now
It is Countyline. The ONLY one that has a bunch of Fox Fords. Speedway is indeed pretty small but has interesting stuff. Pearson's is way expensive and they don't let anyone wander around. They are in Ridgecrest. Pearsonville is also pretty pricey but they like to sell whole cars at very high prices now. Not to mention Mom's 100,000 hubcaps. She has that many cause she thinks they are all gold plated.
Countyline, wow, its been years since I've been there, but I remember they had several cars out front that they were selling whole. One I really would have liked to bring home to Virginia was a white 63 Colony Park wagon that looked like it hit a street sign with a small dent on the front bumper and hood and a broken headlight and windshield. The rest of the car was perfect. There was also an interesting 59 Plymouth 2 door wagon there at the same time. This was about 5 or 6 years ago.
