I just joined the forum. I have three wagons, my favorite being my 95 Roadmaster. Love the car. 144k, cherry red, burgundy leather and the trailer package. I will be posting questions as problems arise. My first issue is connecting a trailer brake controller. Does anyone know if the car has an under-dash plug-in as part of the trailer package? Thanks.
Ditto for me! It must be the spring thaw. Yesterday Jynx from Maine and now New York. Must be warming up.
I do like the other two. One is an 05 Outback and the other is an 09 Elantra Touring. Neither can compare to the Roadmaster though...
Welcome. Not only another b-body but another 95 DCM RMW with ruby red interior. Oh boy! I'm pretty sure the trailer towing package did not include any provisions for a brake control. Mostly it was gearing, suspension, and cooling.
Thanks for the warm welcomes. Nice to find people who appreciates the finer wagons in life. I found what looks like a brake plug-in just under the dash to the right side of the steering wheel. 8 prong female port, with 4 active. It is exactly where I would have put the brake connector. Looking online though, the connectors only go back to 99 for the GM's. I just can't believe that GM would have set up this car so well for towing, but not install a single wire for lights or brakes. Just hoping someone can point me in the right direction before I have to wire the whole thing myself. I'll post some pics soon. I had it put up for the winter, now time for a good cleaning, wax & pics. This car summered in PA, wintered in FL, never seen salt. Cherry in more ways than one. I was very lucky to find it.
The plug you found is the diagnostic connector. I have wired mine myself, not bad if you have a couple hours and a test light. I know there were plug in adaptors available but I haven't checked in a while. I know they used to be listed under the towing accessories on uhaul's web site. Or any rv dealer that does hitch installations should be able to order one. Can't wait to see pics!!
I was hoping it wasn't a diag port. Oh well. I'll check with U-Haul, then just wire it in. No biggy I guess, just trying to avoid crawling under the car. Not a lot of road clearance as you well know. I don't have the hitch on yet (good news it that it never towed). Thanks for the support and the sympathetic ear. Signing off, will check back tomorrow.
The good news is you can do most of it by removing the panels in the back - spare tire cover and the rear glovbox. They just snap in. Then you can access the back of the tailights easily.
